This SCP is based on a real-world paranormal phenomenon known as the Gurdon Lights, that I coincidentally live near to. Thanks to DrChandra and Monorail for the crits. Images were created by myself using both self-made and Creative Commons assets.

Actually based on a real life unexplained phenomena of the same name- the Gurdon Lights.

For the most part, such information is usually put in the author post in the discussion thread. There is no rule that insists that they cannot be in the main article, but it comes off as jarring when put alongside the in-universe content.

Shouldn't "0.32 H" be either "0.32 Humes" or "32 centiHumes"? Or, alternately, shouldn't the readout say "0.32 cH" instead?

Man, Up until the very end I thought "Yeah, this is a pretty solid, middle-of-the-road skip. Interesting enough."

But that picture is a GOOD damn twist. It's like, we look at angler-fish, and we get how they work and how the little fish they eat get tricked, but there's this underlying assumption of superiority that I've never even thought of before: Obviously, we would never fall for such a trick. The picture totally recontextualizes the whole article by taking our lofty position away. We're the little fish now. Genius. Enthusiastic +1.

I was a little concerned when I discovered this was a real-world phenomenon that's just a skip now, but this really ends up being a lot more about the story than the anomaly. Plus, then the anomaly takes a dive at the end.

A really well written SCP. I love the story that goes with this one, at first I thought it would about a few ghost lights, but then I kept reading and reading, going further down the rabbit hole as the whole terrifying truth and implications of the SCP became apparent. Nicely done +1

So you went one way… and then you took a MASSIVE turn another way. You madman. +1 For the story and creepy factor. Time-based predators? Nice.

But I still don't understand the water aspect. The entire southern US being underwater at the end didn't make any sense to me.

My interpretation is that they're from VERY far in the future, when changing water levels, continental drift, etc. has put the region underwater.

Bingo.

In actuality, the area in real life was underwater long ago. You can still occasionally find the odd shell at random. But yes, this instance is the far, far future in particular.
