I just noticed that this SCP was posted maybe minutes before I opened it.

+ I'm going to try to put together some details.

So there is a thing that happens to worlds that have achieved unity, but the thing isn't caused by the planet achieving unity, it's caused by the Observer Effect. In other words, another world observing the first.

Upon being observed, the world … ?

There's a pattern screamer here. This is what caused the drone to freak out. Like all paterm screamers, it continues to take the shape of whatever the observer expects to see until focus is broken.

There also seems to be references to several canons like McTriss, Rat's Nest, and I think I saw a reference to the invisible lizard from Bellerverse. Interesting thing is that those canons conflict, which says to me that post-3426 worlds are actually Earth from different canons.

Put it together… you have a pattern screamer that reflects other SCP canons. This might explain the Poe reference in the comments on the suppliment. Maybe that means all of the canons can look up at the night sky and see a pattern screamer of the 3426 world.

Other than that… uh… gimme a hint.

If it is the pattern screamers, as Dr. Naught says, then this process has already started on earth!

Also, I think this is an interesting response to the Fermi paradox and The Great Filter. Of course, a very professionally written article, as well. +1

Yeah, I immediately recognized that whatever is happening to post-3426 world's looked just like that. However, I think the 3426 prime world is safe so long as it has its own SCP-3930.

Pattern screamers require attention to grow in power, which means any world that has a 3930 is restricting knowledge of 3930 by virtue of its containment protocols.

Any world that has been consumed by a pattern screamer would be ones where Anomaly 3930 was never discovered.

My theory is that these post-3426 worlds all had legends of their own 3930. When they achieved unity, urban legends of the 3930 anomaly got uploaded to the cloud. Some worlds immediately succumbed to the 3930 Anomaly, as everyone became aware of it at the same time. Those that didn't managed to hold on until anothe world looked into the night sky and observed their world, causing the pattern screamer to explode in size. This is why some world's didn't experience a 3426 event until after they were discovered by the foundation of 3426 prime.

None of this is incompatible with the theory that these are the worlds of the other canons. In fact, one can read the Rat's nest canon as a modified pattern screamer, though it is a bit of a stretch.

My theory as to the nature of 3426 is kinda similar to Dr. Naught's.

We are on the verge of finally discovering it - [CORRUPTED] equation of everything. The mathematics is working perfectly; too perfectly, perhaps, for me to remain comfortable with this experiment much longer. [CORRUPTED] natural laws, behaviors, and forces?

I cannot help but fear at what these findings imply. I cannot keep this secret. This conclusion is something that affects everything. Not just on the planet, everywhere. [CORRUPTED] that exists. We are n[CORRUPTED] and as I stare further and further into the sandgrains that make this world, I am further convinced that they are built out of mist and magic.

My theory hinges around one assumption, and that is that each world with sapient life has its own instance of 3930. In short, I think that a unified scientific theory/model of the universe (A theory of everything) would predict the existence of Pattern Screamers. Once this theory of everything is spread around and shared within that planets scientific community, so too does the knowledge of Pattern Screamers quickly spread. This causes that planets 3930 instance to quickly grow, engulfing the entire planet.

I actually thought about that. However, the article claimed that 3426 events always happen within a few years of the 3426-prime world observing it (if it hasnt already) this is what makes me think that these worlds haven't all discovered a Unified Theory.

Maybe it's option 3: both are true

That fact that this involves a breakdown of reality(patterns) and is constantly referencing a wailing and screaming, not to mention that surrealist exploration log, pretty much confirms this has something to do with pattern screamers(I freakin love those things)

Damn. The sudden collapse of everything when things get too advanced? That is terrifying.

I really like the inclusion that all the dead planets had their own equivalent to the Foundation. I think that particular detail really helps the fridge horror of the possibility of Earth being next set in.

I noticed that Note 5 says that the word it's attached to is an approximation of the native name for post-3426-22, even thought it was discovered on post-3426-10. I don't know whether that's a mistake, or hinting at something.

I'll be honest: maybe I'm jaded, but the "civilization vanishes as soon as it achieves utopia" premise I found kinda lukewarm, going in.

The excellence here comes by virtue of how it ties into the existing "canon" involving Pattern Screamers. It's a wonderfully vicious, no-holds-barred apocalyptic companion piece to the subtle creep of 3930. It doesn't need to stand on it's own because it exists to up the stakes. And it does so brilliantly.

I love this flavor of existential horror that so deftly casts nonexistence as something less of a concept and more of a character, and never going too hammy about it.
