It's not as implausible as we might've been led to believe…

My first contribution to the Omega-K Scenario's basket of works.

Great thanks to my teammates for helping me sculpt this and enduring my inability to code. Additional thanks to Petrograd who pointed out the need for sentence tightening and got us looking at the concept again from a different angle.

And finally, thanks to YOU, yes YOU, the reader, for checking out how to get a new body!

Only problem I had was the watermarks on the images. But they've got to be there legally and there's no way some watermarks are detracting from the article. +1

I wonder, wouldn't SENS (Strategies for Engineer Negligible Senescence) make more sense in this situation? Surely it would be easier to keep a body working indefinitely then to have to acquire a new body every few decades?

SENS sounds like a lot of effort. Why repair your computer when you could just steal one of eight billion working ones?

For some behind the scenes action with the Omega-K Family:

Before the brain transplants there was the talk about brains. What to do with em? Eventually, it came down to two options. Brain swapping through wave transfer, or through surgery. After team-member Galaxy-Class mysteriously vanished, I took on the role of figuring out what to do with de brainz. Time passes and here we are.

Narratively, this is done for emotional impact as well as imagery. There's more to play with and a lot more to tie in with some of the themes of this team.

In-Universe, the reason is $. Repairing the same body as it ages through point DNA modifications and so on is more expensive than what is essentially a hackjob+lego. Furthermore, repairing a body gives you youth back, but also YOUR youth back. Wouldn't you rather want something different? And if you have the money why wait? You can easily just change into something more…experimental.

I would want the LoE's youth back. That's a transplant you only have to do once and seems like the obvious solution for PL.

That… seems kind of misleading. Its technically accurate, but it wasn't that loads of people died in their thirtys. Its that loads of people died as infants, and the survivers lived longer than thirty years. A fifty or even sixty year old wouldn't be that rare.

Other than that, its a good article.

I've never liked Prometheus format, because it's always so dry and technical.

That said, after skipping down to the bottom, I got what I wanted. This dude's going, "Hey, brain transplants are totally a thing we can do! You guys just have to find us donor bodies, it'll be easy!" What a chucklehead. :D

Interesting, but the format is perhaps a bit underutilized. I liked the idea of Prometheus engaging in medical, humanitarian work as a prerequisite for the major moneymaking op, but I'm not sure a lot of the story's capacity for paratech intrigue came through, so much of it ends up being fairly dry.

I also expected the "where do we get the bodies" thing to figure a bit more into the plot, and while I suppose it's in-character for PL to just toss that concern aside, it's not incredibly satisfying to read.

All in all, novote.

I love this kind of format, my kind of thing with the technical stuff.

Couldn't you achieve the same goal with robotic bodies, instead of body snatching or making brainless clones? Would probably be cheaper and longer lasting.

Prometheus labs has access to superscience, so maybe they could build a robot body that would be compatible with a biological human brain, but it would probably be cheaper and easier to grow clones and prevent their brains from developing (and even cheaper and easier to just grow regular clones and chop their brains out).

Think about how much harder it is to make an egg or an apple artificially than it is to just grow them, then scale that up to a whole human body. I'm not saying these fictional superscientists couldn't do it, just that it would be a pretty differnt thing at that point.

I have an inherent issue with the Prometheus Labs format in that my attention span and patience for scientific documents is supremely low, which isn't a particular fault of your article. But I think there's so much talk about the issue and Prometheus dragging it on that it becomes real boring to read before we even get to the Business Case. It doesn't really recover from there, in my opinion.
