You know, in these End Of The World scenarios, the Foundation still needs to do their job right? Even they need to learn to adapt. New behavior becomes baseline. Old stuff becomes anomalous. I felt they needed a mechanism to figure all of that out.

Yet another entry for team "I don't wanna die".

Thanks to Kakroom, DrChandra, Jazstar, my teammates, and probably some people who I'm forgetting who reviewed this.

Honestly, that idea was a large part of what prompted me to write this. The practice seemed strange enough that'd it'd probably show up on the Foundation's radar, but then I thought "How the Foundation react if it was normal?" which inspired the actual framing device of the census.

+1, I really do like this scenario.

People age as normal, so are they not terrified about turning into an immobile yet conscious vegetable 100-200 years down the line and staying that way forever? That seems like the most obvious concern here!

You eventually blackout though and they send some people in to drag you to shore.

Wait I thought you couldn't lose consciousness in this scenario (In the same section, "Mapfire" should be "Mapfre").

My understanding was that the brain couldn't entirely cease to function; I do remember being confused by the wording.

The drowning thing was pretty cool but the table at the end (the final cell in particular) is what really did this for me.

This is pretty good but I found most of it to just be a little obvious. It's a nice supporting article to everything else you have going on but beyond the couple of points already mentioned by others (drowning and the last bit of the table), it's all just unsurprising.

So, while I admit the first two interviews aren't super mind-blowing, what they were trying to pull off was more demonstrating how people actually adapted to the situation. Also I wanted to ramp into the self-drowning one, so two more toned down stories would make that last one pop more.

I enjoyed this, especially the drowning part, but the ending undercut it for me. Like, we're supposed to be seeing these as selected portions from a much larger bank of interviews and selected recommendations, but you literally only show us the recommendations generated from these interviews.

That doesn't feel like a slice of a broader world, it feels like we're looking at a single bureaucrat's messy desk.

Oooh, you make a good point. I think after the contest I'll go back and add/change some of those entries to better reflect that things you don't see. I'm glad you liked the rest of it though!

The one-two sucker-punch of the final interview and the new proposals to baseline reality are really good. I enjoy this simple look at how the Foundation adapts to the world changing. It's such a mundane thing, and yet I have to imagine the job itself being pretty worth it and cool to do for those suited to it.

Unsure of whether I'm allowed to edit an active contest article, but the opening has "… Civilians are were hired" in it which I'm pretty sure is an error.

"The surgery cost them an arm and a leg, which they couldn't even pay because they broke all of theirs!" — finding it difficult to imagine how this sentence could have been directly translated from Spanish.
