A big thank you to Captain Kirby,not_a_seagull does not match any existing user name, FloppyPhoenix does not match any existing user name, multizig, Croquembouche, Ensophos, Golden506 and Pedantique for critiquing!

Thank you Croquembouche a second time for helping me with wikidot's jankiness, TSATPWTCOTTTADC for fixing the newspaper image and MrPines for donating that kickass hover code.

Confused? (Spoilers, I guess.)

[+] About the anomaly?

It's technobable-heavy, but it's a pretty simple concept.

[+] About the story?

Two children: One disappears for a few weeks and one dies. Larua was still in the mindswapper. Which means that…?

Here we go again

Golden506 19 May 2018 20:56

http://scpexplained.wikidot.com/scp-3662

This took me a lengthy discussion in chat with Aers to understand, and I think a lot of people just won't get this. So I must continue my duty of Aers's designated explainer _{^{(you know, if you didn't write such complicated shit i wouldn't need to be here :p)}} by drafting the SCP explained article above.

I still think I might of gotten something backwards though, the diagram isn't quite matching up but I honestly don't know what to change at this point.¹

Footnotes

1. I mean I could probably figure it out but at this point fuck it, the additional context part is what matters anyway.

I think your explanation is fine. Though I personally found no difficulties in understanding the original description, and actually expect/prefer it for some skips.

Update: The "About the anomaly?" image's Cloudfront URL is now giving me (and presumably everyone else) security errors, but it's archived at the following link:

A Random Day 19 May 2018 21:17

I would put the newspaper clipping before the collapsible - most people, myself included, will open and read the collapsible before the clipping.

Ayers 19 May 2018 21:23

I was really torn on that: either I put the collapsible first and have the problem you describe, or I have the problem of people not knowing the transcription was there in the first place.

I think I'll keep it where it is for now. I'll change it if more people think it's an issue.

LordStonefish 20 May 2018 04:18

The clipping accurately captures the feel of a rural paper with very small readership from that time. But the masterpiece here is the combination of a complex technobabble heavy anomaly with a good story and just the right dash of doomsday and portention.

ribby97 20 May 2018 13:09

It's a neat idea, but….

I'm usually completely rubbish at working out complicated scips, but I /think/ I got what was happening here pretty early on in the interview, which meant that the newspaper article felt somewhat superfluous and heavy-handed.

So I feel I have to no-vote, sorry :(

The comments make me think I've missed something

Guy's daughter is dying, he puts her mind in a thing, then puts it in the body of a different girl, so her mind gets trapped in the thing.

Nah. You've got it.
But did you catch the glimpse of the holy Cosmic Starfish

Ayers 20 May 2018 13:41

Hi, ribby!

[+] My response

The newspaper is an addition for a couple reasons:

• Provides a second point for the story to click for people.
• Attempts to explain some common follow-up questions like "why didn't her parents notice?"
• Adds another emotion to the equation (not only did Light get away with this, he's also regarded as a hero. What an asshole.)

But, yeah, I can understand it feeling heavy-handed. I lack the kind of talent to make stuff like this feel natural. Thank you for your thoughts!

LordBlaze 21 May 2018 11:41

A starfish, a big bird, and a monster are all up there

1. cosmic starfish yeeeet
2. Graywing…? or smthn lol nvm its that thoth guy or something right
3. Who??

---

The Holy Warrior walked. It had been a long time since he'd walked this far, but he was used to walking nonetheless.

multizig 21 May 2018 12:00

technically it's not the cosmic starfish; it dwells in the realm of human thought, meaning it's SCP-3125, a sign of his holy presence; may his five arms be blessed

They are:

1. SCP-3125
2. Thoth
3. Akhelios, son of the Mistaken Beast (reference The Sacred Djehuti for information)

Edit: I only noticed after but boy is this a necropost, sorry!

Mortos 21 May 2018 22:31

all traces of personality and ability to eat, sleep, see, vocalize and move any portion of the body other than the right arm have all been destroyed due to prolonged exposure to aberrant memes.

Yeah the internet is a real bitch.

+1 because the article itself is good, but except for a brief mention of a big bird, I don't see how this ties into your doomsday event.

Anorrack 05 Jun 2018 20:04

The SPC admits to using the bird meme to try to combat "Selachian Entities," but it didn't work. with this article it states that persons trapped inside would be very sensitive to aberrant memes in the noosphere, ergo a person came into contact with the bird meme while inside the clock, and when extracted, spread the meme, causing the apocalypse.

Decibelles 15 Jun 2018 20:04

This is really hard-hitting. By the end of it, I felt invested in every single aspect of the story. For such a benign anomaly, you really took it places. And while I can't imagine how this will tie into the rest of your series, I think it's strong enough on its own merits to warrant an upvote. The interview was very well-done, as was the newspaper clipping. That sealed the deal for me.

mlister 04 Jul 2018 20:16

Despite how simple both the anomaly and the story are, the framing and technobabble make it feel like there's too many moving parts.

+100!

Ayers 21 Sep 2018 23:09

Hot damn I never expected this. I'll take this as a good omen for Team Bird II.

Thanks, everyone.

Team bird best team!

ViktorZ45 02 Apr 2019 07:48

I like it but I dont understand why is it called
the doomsday clock

Ayers 02 Apr 2019 09:01

I do get this question a lot so I guess I outta actually answer it for once.

This SCP facilitated a BE-Class "Migration" Scenario in the Team Bird canon (i.e. doomsday), and was written for the 2018 Doomsday Contest.

It's also a cool name, so I took it >:)

ViktorZ45 02 Apr 2019 15:59

Oh ok now I understand. I just though that usually such a document will be with a name that somewhat describes the SCP itself.
