This was likely the first article to make me have a real emotional reaction, and we really need more stuff that isn't just grim dark scary on the site, like this.
THANK YOU FACE
An aside: The picture is actually of a bowl of soup my dad made for me about a year ago when I caught a really bad cold and had to stay home. I found it yesterday while moving my pictures around.
I didn't think any more feels could happen, then you created more by saying that.
Many thanks to Silber, Gara, and VinceRed in particular for helping me with this on the chat over the last two days or so.
Named by Silber in the chat, by the way.
Edit: (thanks for help on the tags)
Edit edit: I need to credit Kalinin for helping me with the tone. Thanks Kalinin.
Super late edit: and Dmatix, in the forums.
Lyrical. Lovely
What about the salt water? I feel I missed something obvious
I thought it might have been to soak his back, like it was wanting to help despite his refusal to eat the soup.
My personal take on it was that it was the bowl's reaction to attempting to help someone like that, as if the bowl itself was saddened by the thought.
While writing this, I imagined that the bowl itself had a fatherly conscience of a sort, and the messages originated from the bowl. However, one could also interpret it as the bowl transferring thoughts from the fathers of those that eat from it.
Ultimately the bowl can never give the reassurance and comfort that a real father can, but it tries.
While I didn't have a physical reaction, this did invoke vague feelings in me. Not many articles do that.
Good show!
As I said a few days ago. This SCP is beautifully simple, a haiku of an article, pulls at my heartstrings.
