Addendum 1 used to feature interview logs that were almost as long as the article itself (which is already longer than planned); I removed them because I'd actually prefer to write one or two of them as Tales and maybe link them as supplements, if the SCP itself goes over well. in fact, it's theoretically one of three items that are thematically linked because I get ahead of myself like that

That said, I'm not sure if the idea really has a hook or even makes complete sense without the stories. So. Yeah. Let me know.

Concept or presentation?

I'm sort of regretting overtly describing the effects in bullet points, instead of revealing it in logs/narratively.

Both. Also, compare this to SCP-091 and SCP-1500. The execution of the concept here doesn't make it stand out enough from those two. Nothing in this SCP really felt like I hadn't read it before.

I feel that citation is overused here in some places. " "I don't remember doing that," was a frequent response to reminders of previously committed crimes or known family histories; equally frequent was the insistence, "you asked me here to talk about the family". " is the most egregious. It breaks the tone somewhat.

The rest of the article is not good enough for an upvote too, partly because we already have two skips with similar effects (1500 and 091), and partly because there is nothing interesting revealed about the Bonifay Family itself. Some hints about what they did and how they lived, and maybe how that caused the creation of 1890, would be a nice way to make the article more interesting. Maybe list the details consistent between all recollections.

The fact that the album have different number of pages, photos move, and there is no way to figure out which caption refers to who, is very neat.

Yeah, after a reread I think you're right about the tone.

I think I've emphasized the wrong elements, in that case. I'll try to make the description more concise and add back in the interview logs, so that the focus in on the actual CONTENT of the memories. I think because I wrote them all out and know what they are… Iiiiii underestimated how thin the article would be on interesting detail without them.

Glad that particular little element worked.

I could cut addendum two. When we already have the memory eraser drugs there's no reason to implement long term scp exposure to hundreds of people.

Removing until I can make it sound better; the idea wouldn't be that it should be a total replacement, but that it would be more effective in some cases than wiping someone's brain entire.

I am okay with it replacing the lives of D-class with its own imprinted life that never existed. Things like that really strike me in a particular fashion, though I'm vaguely aware that it is probably idiosyncratic.

Something I find intriguing it "the other Bonifay artifacts". Now, I don't really want to see the Bonifays become another GOI, but the implication that there are multiple SCPs connected with them is interesting.

I am definitely not aiming to create a GOI; what I would like to pull of is a consistent little mythos for Research Sector-09 that centers around a few Old Florida families. They might work better as tales, though (the pessimistic part of me thinks that SCP-1180 is in a slow spiral toward deletion, and I'm trying to rewrite in Tale format).

The other artifacts are a tire swing and a banjo… existence pending my attempt to make this one more interesting.

…1180 is currently above +50. I don't think we need to worry about that one going away any time soon.

I'd be willing to take a look at the swing & banjo if you like, though they might work better as a Tale about the group.

The concept just doesn't have enough going for it. The writing and execution are fine, but the idea does nothing for me.

I like this, but it seems to me that the weird stuff - the album rearranging itself - should be nixed. Just keep the memory altering effect. The other stuff seems to be weird just to be weird, and losing it might tighten up the article.

I cautiously and respectfully disagree. It sort of adds to the strangeness of the object. I like this one, though I can't quite put my finger on exactly what I like about it. It's quiet, it's subtle and it doesn't seem too overdone.

I actually suffer from prosopagnosia, and the fact that the pictures change makes perfect sense to me. It doesn't matter who the pictures are of, because everyone is equally nondescript. If I open the book, look at the people in the pictures, close it, then open it again a while later and the people in the pictures have different faces, I wouldn't notice.

Ah, I'm really glad the description is fitting— prior to writing this, I heard a really fascinating personal story about prosopagnosia on RadioLab, from the perspective of two people in a relationship (one who experienced face-blindness, and one who did not). The theme of memory (especially the way we remember people after their deaths) is central to this and the other articles, so the "shuffling" effect wasn't just random.

Well, SCP-091 is one of the best articles on the site. I simplified the effects of the photos in this one because they were getting over-complicated; the similarity to SCP-091 honestly didn't occur to me at all. I was mostly worried about the photography theme.

I don't think the "fake memories" concept itself is astoundingly singular, but if I can't make this particular effect more distinct then I'm going to transmute it to a Tale.

There are at least 2 other photo albums that I can think of, although I can't remember the numbers off-hand. There's also a pictoral history book (think like a Time-Life Retrospective coffee table book) with a similar effect where it rewrites the subject's memory.
