GAZE UPON THE REWRITE

A while back I wrote SCP-2651, which ended up having some people enjoy it while flopping tremendously as far as votes go. For a while I was unhappy with how it turned out, wondering if I could do something to improve it, then recently I figured out stuff that could work. Here's the article with that new stuff.

Note that a mystery is intentional here. I don't expect everyone to know exactly what's happening (the details for figuring out most of it are there, though).

However, there is one part I'm fine with spoiling(?)

This alien species was trying to colonize Earth.

I kind of don't know what's going on here, but the design of the aliens is solid and logical, and you can see all the pieces of the story in and around the weird stuff. What was the original version like? +1

I actually have a copy of the original version here (along with original author post), which I forgot to include in the new author post. The biggest differences with the old version are that, while it still has weird shit, the internal logic with what was happening was less present. It was also unnecessarily short (done intentionally at the time), which was detrimental to having internal logic.

I vaguely remember reading an earlier version of this a good while ago, but it never left much of an impression on me. This, however, did. I like how you expand upon Ortothan history and religion by showing ancient alien adherents (and without any annoying "guiding humanity" nonsense to boot!), and I like the creative liberties you took with the alien ghosts. While vaguely reminiscent of Yithians (mostly because of the conical body plan), it still feels quite original. An the little Sarkic reference is nice to. ^^

More worldbuilding, more food for thought, bizarrely packaged, mighty good read! +1

This takes a lot of things I find distasteful (aliens, ridiculously ancient stuff, extended interviews/transcripts, articles that don't make sense without extensive background knowledge of various other articles) and puts them all in one place. -1

Also, the use of "1,000" in the footnote about the Neoproterozoic Era would be more clearly rendered as "1 billion," imo.

Saying 10g of antimatter would destroy the cavern is an amazing understatement, I think. That's huge overkill.

A solid entry to Second Hytoth lore. +1, though I’m curious what state the moon might have been in during that civilization’s peak. Was there native life? Was thaumaturgy possible? Were there portal hubs connecting it to Earth?
