Based on an idea I developed from brainstorming in #site19 a few days ago.

And this is why, kids, you pay attention in maths class.
They used a small craft that launched from the Foundation moonbase (which I didn't make up, it's been mentioned in SCPs before). Presumably it took them a year or so to get there and back, but they were definitely better equipped for it than our longhaired friends.
I'll always remember this SCP and proclaim:
Beatniks..
IN..
SPAAAAACE!
This doesn't really feel fifthist church-ish to me.
These guys aren't Fifthists as such - they dabbled in Fifthism for a few months and got kicked out for being dirty Commies, but paid enough attention to the church's teachings to get the idea of driving to Alpha Centauri.
Never liked the Fifthist concept. This would be stronger without it.
Loved everything else, though. +1
analysis indicates that SCP-1958's trajectory will place it in orbit around the star Alpha Centauri A in approximately 37.2 million years.
It would have to be aimed with supernatural precision to do that, since even the tiniest margin of error in its aiming while over here would result in a huge difference in distance in where it eventually entered the Alpha Centauri system, especially considering that stars move position over that period of time, so they're aiming at a moving target. Now that could be possible, this being an SCP, but it would also require a supernaturally precise measurement by the Foundation to determine this. "It will arrive in the vicinity of the Alpha Centaury system in approximately 37.2 million years" would work better.
"…in a region of interstellar space near the orbit of Mars."
You mean interplanetary space. Upvoted anyway, because a VW bus in spa-a-a-a-ace is, like, totally cool, man.
At first I thought it was funny, but the journal entries were actually kind of sad…
Either way, odd enough for an upvote. Smapti's stuff is good :D
