I don't really care for the style, but that's more of a personal gripe. As is the painful "SCP acronym front organization dohohoho" thing.

What's really bothering me, though, is the whole notion that the Foundation uses non-Foundation personnel to research SCPs. That would defeat the entire purpose of keeping the knowledge of anomalous phenomena from society. It would also make for a horrible work environment. "Hey random research guy! You're being press-ganged into a secret organization at the same moment as having your mind broken by all the crazy shit we have! Hope you don't have any issues with that!" Your setup here makes absolutely no sense.

It makes perfect sense to me. There's probably a lot of grunt work that needs to be done but doesn't need classification. Futhermore, part of a puzzle may not clue someone into the fact that the whole puzzle is frankly odd.

The SCP acronym front organization is pretty drilled into the canon though, and the Foundation would need perfectly normal people to staff those places.

Recruiting from those organizations makes perfect sense in the general case, since they can't exactly setup a table at job fairs. (And if the prospective employee turns into a dud, there's always amnesiacs.)

Cause it's really arguing semantics to a silly level given the number of things downvoted for not following the overall canonthings linked to from the site's main page.

people can dislike things for not matching up with other things, and have the right to downvote for that, but that doesnt make them right.

I'll buy the Foundation using front organizations, especially ones operating as research facilities, as recruiting grounds. What the story implies, though, is that a non-Foundation employee is directly researching an SCP object. So you're essentially exposing a de facto member of "the public" to an anomalous object, which is directly against the entire point of the Foundation.

Does the Foundation job out secondary research and technological/logistical issues? Sure, but I think it would be stuff like "Jones, design a 9 cubic meter acid-resistant holding cell equipped with a Faraday cage. It's, um, for the military".

Blodgett is directly employed, funded, and overseen by the Foundation; but they let him believe he works for Symbiosis because he has no need-to-know otherwise, until this promotion. It is actually fairly standard operational security for defense and intelligence contractors IRL. There are uncounted hundreds, possibly thousands even, of employees around the world who think they work for company X but are actually getting a paycheck from the CIA.

Aside from which, 1717 is one of the few "anomalies" that doesn't break reality and could be studied without risking a general breach of secrecy. Someone who doesn't know that scps are a thing could be introduced to ACRES as a "new, highly advanced, engineered bio-weapon of unknown origin" and never think that it was supernatural.

Agree, I was loving the flavor til I scrolled down and could see the bottom of the page when we were just getting started. No idea why it just stops, especially if this is meant to be an orientation¹.

I love all the implications of everything here though
