Another SCP related to the "He-Who-Made-Dark" cosmology.
Your pictures doesn't look like it matches the item description, you say that it's almost 6 feet tall but the picture shows something that looks to be maybe 2 feet tall. It's also not digging into the earth as much as it should if it weighs 1200 kgs (2600+ lbs).
I know that it's minor but I hate when that kind of thing is in an article.
Have you considered that it might be partially buried? Just saying.
I did consider that but the image has what appears to be a square base, the article specifies that it is a sculpture of a head, and looking at the picture it looks like there is grass poking out from the under the base.
Agreed, it does seem a little off in that respect.
Other than that, I quite enjoyed this one.
I thought I recognized Type III meteorite, but that moment in the log where I mentally went "Oh shit, it's Him" made it for me.
However, there are a few issues, at least for me:
The usage of "shall" in the containment procedures. This is probably just a stylistic thing, though.
vaguest of terms.
Iffy tone here.
up into some other reality.
I don't know if this is tonal or just a personal thing, but it seems off. +1 anyhow, though.
"Dissuade the evangelical toilet before the catastrophic video canoe."
Why do I love that line so much?
If an evangelical toilet wants to baptize you, RUN.
After reading this again, this sticks out to me:
When SCP-1806 is sufficiently illuminated and any part of a human subject intersects the line between the light source illuminating SCP-1806 and SCP-1806 in such a way that the shadows cast by the subject and SCP-1806 intersect, the human subject becomes an instance of SCP-1806-1.
Is there any reason why it couldn't just be simplified to, "When SCP-1806 is sufficiently illuminated and the shadow of any living human subject crosses it, that subject becomes an instance of SCP-1806-1."?
Because it also happens when its shadow crosses you— basically its effect is triggered when the shadows become coincident, regardless what side the light is in relation to you and SCP-1806.
Which is not to say that can't be clearer, but that's what I'm trying to describe.
"…and its shadow crosses that of a human subject…"
Incidences of SCP-1806-1
I think "instances" would work better.
Reminds me of the nail with the shadow effect.
Stage 4 really seems like it doesn't belong.
I'll check out the reference, but I think I'm withholding on this.
Well-written, though.
The idea is that SCP-1806-1s are having their brains re-wired to interact with a completely alien reality. The progression is hinted early in the log as we see the victim begin showing signs of synesthesia and issues communicating what he's perceiving. ("What does unease smell like? That's what I see.") The progression is cognitive as well as sensory, and when it's complete, we can presume that our victim is as isolated from our world as we are from the one he's perceiving. Not only in terms of the senses, but in terms of abstractions like language. That word salad makes perfect sense, we just don't have the cognitive superstructure to understand it, anymore than we can see what's watching us from behind the shadows.
