This one has got great potential. Tentative +1, but will be a firm +1 when the typos are fixed.
There's a few wikidot code errors here (too many or too little asterisks used, for example), but this is interesting and a bit spooky. +1.
As a whole, this SCP is alright, and I probably would've upvoted. I love it when the implications of seemingly benign anomalies are explored and brought to attention. However, there are too many tone issues for me to upvote in good conscious. For example:
SCP-3769 is an electronic device of approximately the same size and shape as a standard scientific calculator.
I really don't get why you don't just say "SCP-3769 is a standard scientific calculator" here, or, barring that, "SCP-3769 appears to be a standard scientific calculator."
In addition, a good portion of the testing logs just seem like filler material, and the discovery didn't seem to have a purpose. With some editing to fix tone and some of these other issues, this could be a good SCP. At this point, though, I have to leave it with a novote.
Well you can’t really say it’s a calculator considering it’s function and the fact in doesn’t have an buttons other than numbers and decimal point, no mathematical functions like + - x ÷ or =
Too many typos (it's/its confusion, mostly), but also crosstesting with 411 did not seem wise. The test logs that followed seem a bit too difficult to justify, especially having several attempts at using it on human subjects with no result except killing them, for very ill-defined reasons. But I think the most difficult thing for me to overcome is that you describe it as being roughly the size of a "standard scientific calculator" which I'm guessing means one of those big boys they let you take in for SATs. In which case, its size is rather disproportionate to it only having 11 buttons. A pocket calculator might be more appropriate.
All that said, I will give you some points for not making any of the "earlier evolution stages" known species. That's a mistake that comes up too often in speculative fiction. So good job on that part.
Pretty good in concept and I like how when they tried to evolve a human even by 1 generation they just died, major paranoia fuel. But there are some issues
1. Grammar and types
A. “Speeds of over 32” MPH or KPH?
B. “Once attached, SCP-3769 cannot be removed without heavily damaging the affected organism until a number has been entered and the resulting Rescission Event has completed.” I think you meant to put an “or” between “organism” and “until”
C. Other more minor errors
2. The expirement logs are too short and boring. You have a section where a device that can devolve organisms all the way back to primordial bacteria is being used and it’s only 6 logs long, and one of them is just [DATA EXPUNGED].
A. You could have a few expirment logs dedicated to devolving D-class back to various ancestral hominids and then seeing how much of there original memories, personality, and intelligence remain.
B. They could try devolving one creature and find it devolves into something completely unknown to science(maybe even anomalous), giving the, some insight into the strange(maybe anomalous) origins of a species(besides the thing with the chicken, and/or put more detail into the chicken ancestor)
C. Maybe they devolved one creature and the resulting creature was something highly aggressive that ended up nearly causing a containment breach, maybe they even accidentally create a t-Rex
D.they devolved one animal and the resulting being is actually sapient, unlike the original creature, meaning they evolved into unintelligence. Adding a little being of existiential dread and sadness
E. They try devolving an anomalous species(besides scp-411)
This is an evolution calculator and tests for genetic variables. That would mean that humanity probably goes through an LK-Class "species transmutation" or NK-Class "Grey goo" event, rather than an XK class.
That is, unless there is a temporal element not suggested by any of the tests.
