It's logical the force, whatever it is, chooses its next target from social media contacts. Like tending to associate with like and all that. I wonder how often the thing uses (mundane) Dark Net links -a likely higher hit ratio that way.
There's probably a fuss going on in the Foundation. Some people will want to turn over evidence they find to the local authorities, but the Foundation policy is they only handle anomalous criminal activity. But there's always "if I don't find out about it, we can pretend you didn't actually drop that information on the local DA's desk." Unofficially helping investigations against the people having nightmares, as long as they keep it completely separate from Foundation business.
Nice little legal quirk in some US jurisdictions: The cops and DA can accept "fruit of the poisoned tree" if they don't know -or at least can prove on paper they didn't know- it was said fruit.
