New SCP, my first on the site. C&C away!
For the record, you know some guys just wear mascara, right? It's not intrinsically feminine.
Otherwise, pretty good. I'm not completely won over by it enough to upvote it (weird turns of phrase; "aforestated" is just too clunky a word, even if it is technically correct English), but it's pretty good. I might change my mind and upvote it later.
Agreed, this is pretty solid for a first article. Bits of it are pretty clunky, though, especially this paragaph:
Event 1757-SE climaxes only for those who become obsessed with the film, repeatedly watching it or trying to get others to watch it with them.
"climaxes" is weird usage and excessively dramatic. How about "occurs"?
The event culminates with a visit from a malevolent force
This is odd and not very clinical. If we've never seen it, attributing the wounds to a "malevolent force" which "visits" seems like anthropomorphization. Describe what happens without this kind of speculation.
At any rate, I like the interplay of the entity's curiosity and that of the viewers. Edit this aggressively and you've got my upvote. No vote for now.
I am really on the fence over this one. It is interesting, and I like the idea behind it, but it really is a crazy tape of doom. I think I'll tentatively upvote for now.
Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!
It's a tape that makes you crazy and die. There are chunks where the tone is off and mascara isn't specifically feminine. No vote for now.
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
I don't think there's anything inherently *bad* with this one… It's decent, far from horrible. It just doesn't really have anything to stand out, and has a few small issues that have been touched on already. If you can clean this up a bit more, it might be enough to upvote.
It's not bad, but it's not particularly good either, as is. Some of the wording's a bit weird ( "…of imbecile intelligence.", "aforestated"). No vote for now.
"Imbecile" was originally a clinical term, but has not been so for decades. These days we refer to "retardation".
So, let me see if I understand the basic premise here. There's an entity living inside the tape. It feeds on the curiosity of people watching. If the curiosity is intense enough, it becomes able to manifest in the real world… at which point it kills them horribly, and then demanifests.
Is that it?
I was on the fence on this one, but I liked the recovery and the interview was chilling, so +1.
