I could swear I've seen this before…
I used the photo from a SCP that someone else posted about a month or so ago. It didn't last long on the site, I think it killed anyone who answered it. The picture was the best part, so I went on tineye and found a slightly better resolution and used it.
[DATA REDACTED.] now designated as SCP-086 is an air-breathing mollusc-like creature.
This confuses me. Is it two sentences, one of them consisting only of [DATA REDACTED]?
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
It is actually three sentances describing the particulars of how the human was transformed into the SCP, most of which was redacted. I agree it reads awkwardly. I will fix it if the entry survives.
To me, there are too many questions left unanswered. How does it get nutrition? How does it talk? Has there been any testing of its abilities? Can the carapace be damaged? Inquiring minds want to know!
It is a human that was transformed into a mollusc-like creature. Its shape and abilities were patterned after an object that was nearby during the transformation.
It is fed a nutrient broth suitable to humans. It hears and speaks either through the handset or through another normal phone that it is wired up to. The carapace is similar to an abalone shell and can be damaged. Its memory and knowledge has been tested the most, it has functioned for over 70 years. Even if it is voted into oblivion, it is slated to be a character in a Foundation Tale, and more details will surface eventually. If it survives the next few hours, I will update the entry with more information.

No. You should always give enough information when you first things. Holding out on some of it unless people like it first is a dick move. If I hadn't already downvoted it, I would now because of that attitude.
Giving bearhugs to the unsuspecting since 1872.
I wasn't holding out on information, I was responding to people's comments on this page. I didn't have time to make the clarifications and changes immediately. The details I was referring to that would show up in the Tale were things I didn't feel belonged in a SCP report.
NO NO NO! BAD RESEARCHER!
If you want an SCP to survive, you put up EVERYTHING at the SAME time!
Hopefully you write the foundation tale better then this, or it'll be downvoted too.

Advocating deletion at -18.

Seconding.
Unless staff objects, I'm going to grant a stay of deletion for 5-6 days so Voct can rewrite it. His rewrites go well, so I think it's worth the wait.
Moot point, article is now positively rated.
if your reading this your gay
I say let him write a new one, and let's delete this one.

Okay. This has a lot of potential, and I believe I see ways to salvage it. If the mods decree and the original writer consents, may I have permission to rewrite it?
edit: just to make sure I understand the idea correctly, it's a Foundation administrator from several decades ago who was transmogrified into a molluscoid organism bearing an extreme resemblance to a rotary phone, and who is yet still sapient. Yes?
Yes, you have summed it up accurately. It is also seemingly ageless in its new form.
You certainly may rewrite it, you have done some very nice rewrites in the past. I thought the way you saved 967 from oblivion was particularly well done.
Okay. Let me start by saying that I really like the idea of a Foundation administrator having been turned into this object, but retaining his sapience, personality, and ability to communicate.
One detail that really bugs me, though, is the idea that his dedicated devoted staff would have hidden this from the rest of the Foundation for decades. This guy has like level-4 clearance, and now he's turned into an SCP, and he continues performing administrative duties? No.
I want him to do the responsible thing. I want him to report himself.
I want him to have been originally classified as Safe, but he argued that he's obviously sapient, and we have no idea what he's truly capable of, or how a human mind can be functional in this form, so he should be Euclid.
He makes himself available as a consulting zoologist, but only on non-anomalous subjects.
Hmm.
Perhaps he's not just the telephone, but the full set of 1970s office machinery — typewriter, desk chair, calculator, etc. That would make it easier for us to give him clerical work.
"NON-CLASSIFIED clerical work, please! I'm an SCP now, I don't have a security clearance any more!"
some of the level 4s are pondering whether he's being too conscientious to be human, but isn't conscientiousness a /good// thing? If he is an alien intelligence that's pretending to be Dr Office-Machinery, it's doing exactly what the Foundation would want Dr Office-Machinery to do in this situation.
…
I would upvote this so hard that my trackpad would break.
Edit: And the SCP is called The Office of Dr. [REDACTED]
Giving bearhugs to the unsuspecting since 1872.
I am okay with this, I would point out that he only continued to act as administrator during the immediate crisis in 1938. After that he functioned as a consulting zoologist. I had left the 04 clearance due to his previous knowledge and I have not seen demotions used in the Foundation that were merely a clearance downgrade.
He's very conscientious. He says "no! I don't qualify for a security clearance any more! You don't know what I really am, only what I claim to be!"
I'm gonna change some of the details. I'm moving the [REDACTED] incident to the 1970s, also.
I will upvote this gleefully. :D
i like this, especially if turning him into a full set of office equipment can also provide him with *some* sort of ecology.
though i do find the idea of a high level researcher/SCP administrator willfully relegating himself to only processing mundane things hard to swallow, especially if he was still making decisions in a crisis.
passing thought: surely there's enough possessed furniture and equipment scattered throughout the foundation to make a whole office suite already… though, admittedly, it would probably be an evil office suite. hmm
