My second SCP. Hopefully, it won't ruin the good impression I put across with my first one. Feel free to tear it apart.
I like it. The idea clicks for me. +1.
Also, there should be something about SCP-008 in there. Seems pretty high priority to check in my opinion.
I didn't include any specific SCP items because crosslinking is largely prohibited.
They have checked it, and they know what is on the program. The reader, however, doesn't. For functional purposes, one can assume the commands include every disease on Foundation record, seeing as it doesn't affect the actually point of the article whether or not a particular disease is on there.
I don't like the sixth paragraph of the description. The rest is good enough for an upvote.
Agreed, that part feels tacked on compared to the rest. Upvoted, still.
I'll admit I mostly added that to throw in a sense of danger to the item, which in retrospect was probably misguided. I'll leave it for a little while to see what other people think, but I'll be happy to remove it.
EDIT: That paragraph has been removed. Thanks for the feedback!
I liked it, though that might not be saying much. I wouldn't downvote if it left, either.
"The computer will not require power during this process, for reasons Foundation personnel are currently able to identify." should probably be "The computer will not require power during this process, for reasons Foundation personnel are currently not able to identify." or somesuch?
I told ya I would upvote it, and I did. Love it, love everything about it. Makes me think of the time I was thinking about going to med school.
"as well as extinct diseases such as smallpox to which no modern human possesses any resistance to. "
LIES. Any soldier in the US military would have a resistance to smallpox, as well as a sizable part of the population which have received their vaccine.
I agree with Dr. Schubert.
I have to point out that all people in Taiwan who were born in the 70s received their cowpox vaccines (I had two since the first one didn't grant me the smallpox immunity) and therefore, are immune to smallpox.
Though I upvoted, but I think you need to fix that a little bit.
I'll atone for that grievous factual error by removing it. Sorry about that.
The US military only started getting vaccinated again in 2002, so earlier versions of this SCP could have still affected them. The vaccinations in the 60-7-'s were never designed to last a lifetime-the idea was to immunize the population and get rid of the reservoir of smallpox (also called herd immunity). Most people would not be immune at this point, and, with a large enough exposure, a new outbreak of disease could break through people's immunizations, setting off an epidemic.
I wouldn't call it a grievous error, just an error. : )
Very interesting. The perfect autopsy/disease study models. A question: what happens to tissue samples taken from the bodies? Do these disappear when the Wipe command is given, or do they remain? If they remain, do they get whatever disease is programmed next? Could they be used for transplants?
+1
Interesting question, and not one I'd considered. I'm going to say that tissue samples disappear at the onset of a Wipe command, but develop diseases developed by the main body unti lthe wipe is given.
I just had a horrible thought: what if someone got a transplant from a healthy SCP-1153 instance, and then week or two later a Wipe was executed? Their organs would just disappear.
+1 for people-ports and possible insidious data collection.
