This is very good. Also: I never get tired of Lombardi's voice. He's such a great contrast to the stuff we tend to get in other tales, for one. For another, he's just a really excellent (and entertaining) character.
Nobody killed the captain to prevent him from detonating the on site nuke and killing everyone instead of dealing with the situation.
Eh, just didn't tickle my fancy. The all dialogue setup made it very stark, and the lack of a twist left me feeling like there was a point missing.

…I think you should go back and read that story again.

Maybe s/he hasn't read the other Lombardi Tales.
Edit: FuzzyBoots, that was a hint aimed at you just so we're clear here
I like the idea of Lombardi as the archetypical Viet Nam-era NCO. Loyal to his 'boys' over some green officer… And not above fragging the son of a bitch if it looks like he'd get his boys killed.
Edit: Fuzzyboots, Lombardi told the Captain to take the long way to the shelter. You see, hypothetically, if Somebody wanted this jackass pencil pusher out of the way this would give him ample time to finish the job and ambush him there. But Somebody would be a fool to do that… Nobody wants to be seen killing an officer.
This is good! I love tales. It's been a while since I've read one with Nobody in it. He really reminds me of the Mysterious Stranger.
Ah! Loving these tales, wish I had come across them earlier! Really like the different, tone? Style? Direction? I'm not sure how to describe it but I'm having a blast with these!
