
This is an experiment. I noticed there's plenty of guides and essays on how to write articles, but not tales, so — as someone with a minor background in education and a lot of interest in writing — I figured I'd take a shot at writing one.
I want this to be a living document; if people have suggestions for more additions (or wish to correct errors, etc), I'm happy to modify it.
Keep in mind, though: This essay is for concrete, obvious elements we can all agree on — I want to stay away from the more wishy-washy stuff that may or may not apply in every case. Stuff like 'active voice' vs 'passive voice' are features of the English language; something like Dan Harmon's Story Structure is far more subjective, and not the subject of this particular essay.
Anyway, we'll see how this goes? If people like it (and it seems to help), I'll expand on it in the next piece at some point.
