I like the execution on this one a lot. I feel like if it had been scarier, it just would have been cheesy, but here it works. Upvoted.
This is well written and thought out. But it is also quite bland, with no deviations from the standard body snatcher trope. The fact that they are not actively malicious is not enough to make me interested, sorry.
I'm sorry it isn't to your taste. I tried to put in a few clues that they've not been entirely straightforward with the Foundation about the nature of their abilities. For instance, it may be that they can hop on as passive passengers whenever they want to but prefer willing hosts due to the control this provides. These guys definitely aren't taking over the world or causing a XK-level event.
Hands up, everyone who's sure that Jonas' last name is Quinn.
Also, curse you for thinking up the same idea as me before I could finish writing mine! I wish you luck.
And I was all set to barge in here posting "These things are Tok'ra!" DAMN YOU.
Sorry about that. Perhaps you'll beat me to our next shared idea. I hadn't even thought of Stargate or the Tok'ra (I haven't watched Stargate in probably six years), but when you steep yourself in a frothy stew of SF, some of the ideas that come bubbling up are bound to be similar to other writers and similar to other ideas. I was thinking of these more like ghosts or spirits, but there's no reason they couldn't be aliens, extradimensional entities, etc.
Ok, why would the foundation want to actually kill them?
They can incapacitate them, make them into ashes and store them.
But otherwise, befriending them is an AWESOME idea. You can have a single researcher that works 24 hours in a row =P
No, for real, I wonder if two can posess a single comatose body? And since it says they couldn't get into an unconcious host, how did it get into the comatose one? What're the differences? (I really don't know, I'm asking)
My supposed backstory for my character was that i was a double-personalitied person, my subcontious taking control of my body while i slept. The actual scientist would be the subcontious mind, while i myself would not have any memory or recollection of my other's actions.
SCP-1147 reminds me A LOT of this.
(maybe a tie-in could be arranged…)
I really love this article, except for the experiments attempting to destroy what is listed as a "safe" level item. We know how to contain it - move them into D class near termination and make sure no one touches the bodies afterward. It also mentions that they only transfer to WILLING hosts, so where's the danger in keeping them around?
Execution is unsteady and I had to downvote due to the clichè interview log and extraneous experiment log and the fixation of personnel to try to kill these things for no reason
I really rather like this one. The fact that they are not inherently malicious is rather nice. Furthermore I think this really has room to grow. How about we see a tale about Foundation attempts to recruit these entities? For a researcher who could work forever or agents that could infiltrate basically anything? Just a passing thought, good job.
I liked this for the same reasons as above, but no-voted because the experiment log bored me out of my mind.
