I like this, especially since I wondered at the end if the affected Doctor would not be right actually…
Also, good use of the creepiness already existing in our world. Those microscopic organisms are ugly when looked in a microscope. Being able to see them all the time…
I like this, upvoted.
I fixed some minor spelling "theorised" -> "theorized" and some grammar.
Both British & USA spellings are acceptable on the site. Make sure words are actually misspelled and not just alternate spelling convention before correcting.
Edit: I.e. go back and change that spelling back; I don't know where you did it and don't particularly care to trawl through for it.
Giving bearhugs to the unsuspecting since 1872.
While reading the part where it describes the effects of it giving you microscopic sight and seeing germs for bigger than they actually are, I just knew that the next bit would cause them to become overly paranoid about germs.
So it's a downvote from me because I found it rather boring and predictable.
That's fair, I thought the main problem with this was that the result was really obvious - but it was so obvious I couldn't think of anything which would make more sense to put in. If anybody could think of an interesting twist that would be good.
I think that being able to permanently see big germs floating around is quite awful in itself, since it would basically give the victims the impression that they are permanently walking in a swarm of disgusting little creatures. For that I could have done even without the induced paranoia (which by the way would make the ending more disquieting as there seem to be no reason for the doctor to snap).
Otherwise, maybe having the victims becoming able to feel the germs as well could be a creepy enough alternative…
Thought this was a good idea and I couldn't resist having someone feel germs inside their body, no matter how silly it may sound.
I've made some slight changes to tone down the 'makes you crazy lol' aspect (though I think it would inevitably cause this, so some of it stays) and put in some more effects to fill the gap.
Let me know if it went in the right or the wrong direction!
Darn it… now I have Weird Al Yankovic's "Germs" runnign through my head on a loop.
Reminds me of the manga/anime Moyashimon, where the main character was born with ability to see microbes as anthropomorphic macroscopic versions of their usual selves.
Why? Unless you're arguing that the SCP's mental effects are expected/'normal' and hence not a sign of mental illness, which would be a bit of a stretch, I don't see what's wrong with it.
It should be "psychosis", not "psychopathy": psychopathy is a mental disorder characterised by a lack of concern and empathy towards other people, also called sociopathy. Psychosis is abnormal cognition i.e. hallucinations or bizarre ideas or beliefs.
Psychopathology, not psychopathy. A portmanteau of “psycho” and “pathology” referring to the study or presence of clinically abnormal psychological features.
