Urgh. I've got a 'sink or swim' mentality regarding this one. Let's see how it goes!

+ Regarding SCP-2794

SCP-2794 was used in this article with Fingo7's permission. I wanted a scip that couldn't be killed, and really, really didn't want to use that one lizard boi. I don't think it leans on SCP-2794 too heavily, given that it could literally be any other immortal scip, but I'm open to feedback on that front.

+ Regarding spoilers

So. It's animatronic robot Romans that drag people into a coliseum where they can fight their imagined enemies for as long as they need to to win. Fair enough. Forth, on the other hand, is stuck fighting something immortal, due to his exposure to anomalies and 2794 in particular.

After a long, long time, he breaks out, using s c i e n c e, and goes back to the Foundation, living a long and happy life. Then he dies, his body demanifests, and activity is observed from within the arena again. Do I need to spell it out? :P

I also think it says something about me as a person that my first attempt at writing an author avatar-esque character ended badly, with said character's permanent entrapment in a battle with pooping bugs. Ah well.

I really like this. It's written very well, the ending's poignant in a way that doesn't drag, and while the core concept is great, that ending touch of being locked in mortal combat with an interdimensional shit-bug monster for all is, depending on your worldview, either supremely gratifying or incomprehensibly terrifying.

As a fan of gladiator stuff I approve of this. It's fun and sad and scary. Can't ask for much else.

I mean if he couldn't beat them in his prime, what chance does he stand at 70+? Your choice of SCP-2794… I didn't really read the skip so I didn't understand what you were going for until I came here. SCP-682 is retarded, and I am glad that you did not use it. I'm not sure how you would do it better, personally.

Why is Forth referred to as "they" in the addendum when clearly identified as a man? If it's because of his designation is -3, then should they be referring to him by name? If they are ignoring that in honor of his passing, why not wave it entirely?

Because, while he's still classified as SCP-2668-3, the standard 'it' would lessen the compassionate tone I was aiming for. They don't refer to him as -3 multiple times because it would be jarring flow-wise, and more difficult to read.

In-universe, just imagine they partially waive the 'disconnected, unemotionless tone' requirement for people the IU author would have built up a friendship with.

EDIT: I also fully support the use of third person singular genderless 'they' in technical documents, if that was what you were asking.

Alright, so on reading this article I was immediately reminded of SCP-1628 as both involve massive automaton replications of historical periods and frankly its a pretty easy crosslink to suggest design similarities between the batches of drones. As such, I am recommending the following edits:

Changing this:

2. used to refer to a person of unspecified gender.
"ask a friend if they could help"

"They" is not necessarily a singular pronoun. However, since this issue's been brought up twice, I'll change it to "he".
