I don't like it much, the idea of a benevolent genious doens't fit well, honestly.
Thought it can improved, so im downvoting until revision
I hadn't thought of 1083-1 as a "benevolent genius", per se. He/it doesn't know how to do anything except judge actions based on logical ability, and he/it's more than willing to drive people insane to suit his/its purposes. Do you have any specific suggestions for improvement?
Not much, it comes to me the idea of making the skull a non-sapient, automated item, created by someone or something, but that would require scrapping hte entire concept of the entity.
What makes the genius inside a bad idea is that it seems to be too powerful (at least for my liking)
Not at all. This is at least the second University SCP that is "Thing with a person inside who does stuff." The idea that most of the staff or professors of Alexylva have no physical body is brilliant.
wait what other one has a person inside it that does stuff? theres the sundial but i thought it was implied that was just a guy who wasn't recorded in history books, not a Alexylva staff member, either way i'm all for the expansion of the University mythos!
I believe quartz is crystalline, yes. You prefer something more metallic?
I don't really see a problem with it being made out of crystal. It's a tiny detail to the rest of the article.
Well, I'm just seeing that this could somewhat be seen as a reference to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
You're aware that Indiana Jones did not invent this concept, yes?
Neither the existence of crystal as an artistic medium nor the existence of skulls are original ideas to Indiana Jones. And I've never seen the movies, so…is this similar to the plot? I didn't use the phrase "crystal skull" because I thought it sounded vaguely cliche, but it really is just a side note.
I'm okay with someone not liking the SCP, but that's one of the strangest reasons for doing so I've ever heard of.
EDIT: Also, why would I reference a movie everybody hated apparently hated less than I thought when referencing any preexisting cultural creation is pretty much an automatic downvote?
Mm. Don't care for this one much.
Think you need to slow down, take a breather. You're pumping out an alexylva university SCP every few days it feels. Your quantity is rising but quality dropping. I love the university items in general but the last few have felt more and more forced and less refined, like you were trying to meet some personal quota for them.
Actually, it was more that I had the idea and didn't feel like I could do other stuff until I had it down. But you're right, either way. This was the last University one that I really felt inspired to write, so it'll be a while before I get back to doing SCPs about them.
Actually, it was more that I had the idea and didn't feel like I could do other stuff until I had it down.
Dude, that's like all of my SCPs ever. Writing is less of a hobby for me than it is a compulsion.
Oh, and this really doesn't do anything for me.
if your reading this your gay
This doesn't ring true for me at all:
Affected subjects typically register a decrease in IQ score of between █-██ points, rendering them unsuitable for continued employment with the Foundation. In spite of this, subjects will demonstrate greater reasoning skills and use of logic, though their actual knowledge and memories will be lessened.
That's not how IQ works, it has nothing to do with general knowledge or remembering facts. What you described would actually be an INCREASE.
Agreed. Perhaps we can indicate that they lose a large degree of creativity or capability to act without orders (I know there's a word that sums up the latter, but I'm having one of those scary days where basic vocabulary is fleeting) as a result of whatever is in the skull brutally reshaping their brain to think logically?
The basic premise I'm seeing here is that the University, highly valuing logic, commissioned this item with the idea that it could be used to create a more perfect man, a logical and rational man. Instead, they are finding that they are all too weak, and that a logical mind actually recoils from their principles. Since they cannot admit that their philosophy is wrong, instead they blame the item. Does that sound about right?
Furthermore, how would a single-digit decrease in iq even change someone from suitable to unsuitble for Foundation work? A 90 will generally be able to do anything a 99 could, not to mention such small gaps between scores well above average {like 133-142}. If the poor sod is so far below average that this 9 point loss just pushed them into official retardation… well, i doubt the Foundation would have hired them in the first place.
I NEARLY downvoted at the picture because I thought it was going to be a crystal skull and I wanted to punish you for reminding me of the movie.
Then I read it and thought the article was Okay. Not Great, but Good Enough to deserve and upvote.
This is the third bland SCP item I've seen with interesting University stuff attached. Once again, only the University stuff has saved this from a downvote from me.
Please, work on fixing these articles. The more bland things get attached to the University, the less interesting the University will be.
