Self-fertilization is a terrible way to go about the reproductive process. Otherwise, upvoted, I like this.
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
If the page you are on "looks fine," it is most likely (but not certainly) because its theme is overriding the SCP Wiki's default Sigma-10 theme. If you were to then navigate to a Sigma-10 page, such as the Front Page, it would likely appear broken.
Alternatively, if you know for sure that Sigma-10 is loading, the error is most likely mistakenly appearing because you switched the Sigma-10 theme to a different theme using the ThemePreviewer module or another similar feature. If this is the case, and you are the author of the page, add the following code to it to remove the warning:
[[module css]]
#top-bar .ios-cache-issue-notification {
display: none !important;
}

They're dying out. Evolution ain't exactly on their side right now.
I know. Unless they clustered in the past, this kind of reproduction would still be kinda cruddy. I mean, in the good times even bacteria exchange genetic material.
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
I really like this, good work. That said there's some pretty awkward phrasing in places, I recommend going over it again and rewording some stuff.
I wrote most of this after 2:00 AM, so that's not surprising. Could you please point out where?
Could you elaborate? Also, I'd appreciate your assistance in finding an image for this, if you don't mind.
Just kidding. I'll see what I can do.
What do the numbers in the square brackets mean in the last log? Years? How'd they find these out?
I'd think that the Foundation would notice that "Let the depths rise up and sweep over the shores, rendering the works of man to dust" is said in two different languages, since it suggests that something more than mere mimicry might be going on. I mean, it's possible that the species learned it from one human, repeated it to a different humans, one of those humans translated it out loud, and it then learned the translation. But still, "this means something more" isn't a possibility the foundation would ignore.
I wonder what they used to mimic before the coming of wooden sailing ships? Or did they have to mimic anything?
Who says they existed before the coming of wooden sailing ships?
I could see them mimicing whale song to cause them to beach. Then attaching themselves to the animal, or maybe somehow inducing the whale to swallow them strengthening the Jonah references, and the life-cycle proceeds.
Of course, this would be a rather signifigant departure from the way it's written now. For one thing, the wood rotting effect would have to be expanded to organic material to let them "spore" from a whale host.
I actually like that idea. That said, not sure if I'll bother editing this one. I'm not thrilled with it, but I don't think that would address the issues I have with it.
Why is this as highly rated as it is? I mean, I'm saying this as the author. I don't really have much of a hook, and the things just sink ships. Dunno, I'm not all that thrilled with this.
Its reasonably creepy and dangerous without being OMG your eyeballs has explode. In other words it has a nice balance to it and reminds me a little of the Thing in terms of the mimicry angle.
I like the log at the end. Nicely evocative; not too vague and not too explained.
