This is interesting, damn interesting. I don't know how to feel about this. I'm tempted to like it mostly out of curiosity but it doesn't frighten me.

Do loud noises cause the area to retract from the source of the noise? If not then how was this contained fast enough to prevent it from growing out of control in the first place?
I'd appreciate a containment log on this one, this side of it is enough for a downvote for me….
While it's true that if they just found it, it would likely be giant by the time they got around to it, I can think of a number of scenarios that would make it containable: it was created by someone else who knew how to contain it (or the Foundation was around), the Foundation created it accidentally, etc. If I get a lot of other feedback about how didn't make sense, I may add a note- but for what it's worth, I did consider it.
I'm really torn… on the one hand, this is interesting and reasonably well done. On the other hand, between the effect and the picture, I can't shake the idea that we've now contained the Corruption from Terraria…
Haha, but given the way that it seems to look rather beautiful and pristine, wouldn't it be more along the lines of the Hallowed?
Really, there's only one niggling issue with it, to me: the speed of growth. How was this area previously contained, if it has such an esoteric weakness, and it expands so quickly?
Okay, upon rereading it, it's different enough from an idea I've been working on for too long that I shouldn't worry too much about it.
Two questions:
1) Shouldn't there be something in the containment procedure about keeping civilians away and/or dosing them with amnesiacs if they get too close?
2) Does the noise keep away birds and flying insects? Or do they naturally avoid the area because of its alien-ness?
Given how fast this grows, I would think that finding ways to push it back would be a high priority. Would it be as simple as flamethrowers and napalm, or would you have to nuke it to "disinfect" an area? A particular frequency of truly intense and focused sound causes break-down/disintegration, possibly. Maybe nothing at all works, but I feel that it would have been tested and noted in any case.
Also, does it go underground? Is it converting the soil and bedrock to some alien equivalent, or does the effect limit itself to on or near the surface? If it does spread down as well as out, maybe it isn't nearly as well contained as we think, huh?
Incredible spread rate, nothing natural to keep it in check. I'd be very curious to see how we found out about this phenomenon and began containment on it. If it requires loud noise to keep back, where on Earth is there a naturally occurring, constant loud noise? Much less a ring of noise to contain it initially? Was it an accident at a Foundation site as a result of crossing two innocuous SCPs? Was it an experiment on a previous SCP that, when just the right tone was found, it began expanding, and only through loud noise was it stopped?
Just some ideas.
Maybe it's adversely affected by salt water and when the Foundation first encountered it, it had taken over an entire (small) island in the pacific and they grabbed a sample and nuked the island? I dunno, but barring something like that, the growth rate alone makes this one hard to swallow.
