I just can't take this seriously, sorry. It was cool up through the tapping their foot to wake them up and leaving them paralyzed, and I expected some sweet creepy sleep paralysis goodness, but no. It pulls your toes off.
That's stupid.
Downvoted. All I could think of were retarded old timey proverbs. "if you linger too long at fish market, trolls will eat your face! sleep with your feet out and the shadows will steal your toes! shit on the goat path and you'll get boils!"
sleep paralysis would have been nowhere near as scary or effective as this.
I've always had this fear of something eating my feet while I'm asleep, and this pretty much hits that spot. Well played.
EDIT: Of course, now that I think about it, it's always been more of a whole foot type of thing.
if your reading this your gay
precisely.
it's not that this is a perfect SCP article or that it's impossible to write it better.
it's that it does what it's trying to do right
Having never had, or heard of, this fear, this article really doesn't do much of anything for me. Have they ever tried to slice off the fingers? Isn't this a terribly unsustainable predation model? Any details on how it spreads. Sorry, but downvote.
Isn't this a terribly unsustainable predation model?
What gave you the idea that this thing cuts your toes off for anything other than shits and giggles?
if your reading this your gay
Well, it won't get to do it more than once or twice this way. Not many shits or giggles that way.
I've been thinking of ways to get the victim back in the bed without adding a major tertiary effect to the SCP. I think it would up the scare factor. Thoughts?
One option could be that a percentage of the time, the person affected by SCP-072 may transmit it to a new bed (they carry it with them). This way, when the patient is in the hospital getting treatment, a copy or spawn of it can be transferred to the hospital bed. The affected person could continue to be sliced by the original.
Just a thought from a newb.
When I first looked at the article picture, I was expecting the bed was found in either an insane asylum or some hospital a good 70 years ago. Both would have allotted for high-traffic in a single bed. However that turned out not to be the case.
Why is this SCP safe?!?!!? Can I change it like… I think eating your foot is a bit more then safe….
Can I change it like…
No, unless you have permission from the original author or a staff member.
I think eating your foot is a bit more then safe….
"Safe class" does not mean "not dangerous". Object classes are based primarily on how difficult something is to contain.
The idea of its main focus, especially frightening aspects, is golden, but I feel like it needs much more to actually be frightening. And to do the "foot fear" justice.
I've seen that that's a common thing. I'd like to work this concept up to standards, so I've replaced the toe references (which were quite silly). I'm more than receptive to suggested changes and people editing some of the clunkier language.
Jesus, I just read this, and this is one of my worst fears ever.
I was reading along and saying to myself "Oh, it's the thing that lives under your bed and grabs your ankl-AGH! That is not what it is!"
Terrifying.
I can't think of a way to fix this one, sorry. Downvoted.
Reverted, because, well,
Jesus Christ folks, this is the simple stuff here.

But this was posted in the "Are You a Bad Enough Dude to Rescue the SCP?" section here: http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-236268/are-you-a-bad-enough-dude-to-rescue-the-scp (at the bottom of page 3). The rules of this section state "Any article posted here by an admin or its original author has an automatic green-light for edits: that means you can go ahead and edit the article without having to contact the admins or the original author".
Please note that the author, in their post on that thread, asked for suggestions on how to improve it and not a rewrite or overhaul.
I don't think my revision was that big of a change to be called a rewrite or overhaul. The only section that I largely changed was the containment procedures, which was what the article needed to have improved. The author didn't ask for just suggestions on how to improve it, they asked for it to be improved: "as long as it's there, I'll like to see it improve".
Regardless. The author asked for suggestions, not for it to be rewritten. Don't be a dick.

Sorry, not trying to be a dick or force my changes on anyone. I honestly interpreted the rules of that section and the author's post as "please work on my article, you have my permission".
