You are now rereading this to Kansas' Dust in The Wind.
I hadn't heard of that song before you mentioned it, and yeah, it's pretty much appropriate.
For some reason, though, I thought of this when I read it. I also think that Mr. Smiles should be featured in one of the Mister stories.
if your reading this your gay
This is excellent. Great writing, great atmosphere.
I really like this, and I don't know why. That bothers me a little.
I don't grok Mr. Feather. The falling and floating make sense, but what's with the "bird" in his chest, and why does he just spontaneously fall off the porch? Usually things like that which I fail to grasp will jar me out of enjoying a story. But in this case, I seem to like it anyway…has someone been putting memetic agents in thier text to influence voting?

that is like putting coffee in your coffee because you want coffee
Xzibit reference in 3… 2…
…I had to read that three times before my brain deigned to parse it.
Writing is inherently memetic, but "inert" in that it doesn't effect the mind beyond the content of the communication. In scp reality you could craft an "active" memetic independent of any specific information transfer that would compel the reader to like a story and then embed it in a story that the reader would not otherwise enjoy. Thus artifically elevating their opinion of the writing beyond the potential of normal "inert memetic" prose. Love or hate memetics, in scp-land, you have to recognize them as elements distinct from storytelling.
All of that is very off topic. The point is that I like this story, even though I normally don't like similar stories.

I don't fully agree with that, but I get your larger point.
So it's more like putting cocaine in someone's coffee because you want to get them buzzed harder than they would from just drinking coffee.
Exactly so, and might I say that is one of the most finely crafted metaphors I have seen in many a day.
Now I can't help but wonder if anyone has ever done that to their coffee. Perhaps a dealer, groggy in the early morning, grabs a spoonful of the wrong white powder to sweeten his cup.
Or, I understand you dilute cocaine with baking powder. Mix up the packages while baking and get…coke cake?
How did he pass through a chain link fence? Did he go through the gate?
Haha Mr. Feather was made by Dr. Light.
