I'm thinking there should be a link to the first thousand somewhere on this.
yes. and there should also be a link in the list on the right to get to this, currently the only ways i see are in "most recently created" and by scrolling to the bottom of the first list.
There's also a link in the dropdown under [The SCP Series].
However, I also would like a link in the list to the right, since it's an entirely separate page and no link makes it seem like it's 'lesser' than the first page. (And I think we all intend for that not to be the case, content wise at least!)
Contrary to what you might have heard, this page is not yet open for new SCPs. Let's get the first thousand completely filled first.

Is that "1" after "Table of Contents" supposed to be there?
Something's not working on this page atm - haven't been able to edit to add a title and I've noticed the author of the next submitted SCP hasn't been able to add a title either. I get a generic Wikidot error message when attempting to save changes; Dexanote said it was working for him, though I notice it hasn't been updated since the 11th, so perhaps it's been set to admin-only?
