The Magma Carp SCP-788 has come!
An enormous carp composed of magma! It has a thick picritic skin and it squirms and fidgits!
Beware its high internal body temperature!
So, kind of a crossbreed between Slugma and Luvdisc?
I just put SCP-788 into the format of a description of the Forgotten Beasts/Titans from Dwarf Fortress, because magma and carps are very big things to Dwarf Fortress players.
I'm sorry for the necopost, but I just wanted to say that this reference flipped my vote. I had thought magma was dangerous enough before, but this would've been ridiculous. Upvoted, but I have one minor nitpick/pet peeve.
SCP-788 was discovered following the 19██ eruption of [REDACTED]. It is currently theorized that multiple instances of SCP-788 may exist in the mantle layer of the earth, and the eruption of [REDACTED]
The fact that there's repetition without literary reason was jarring, especially considering how they're directly atop one another (at least in my view). Replacement of the second "eruption of [REDACTED]" with "the aforementioned volcanic disturbance" or something similar would easily fix this little snag.
(If for whatever reason that this kind of necropost is still against etiquette, then drop me a PM and I'll delete it and know better for the future.)
Magma carp,
Magma carp,
Does whatever a magma carp does.
Can it swim,
Through magma?
Yes it can,
That's why it's called a magma carp
Look there!
There goes the magma carp!
Sorry, but this just reminds me too much of our resident Starfox, which I just like better. There's nothing wrong with this, it's just that I can't shake that comparison.
if your reading this your gay
"It's… it's a CARP!!! Run for your life!!! Send in Nobles to feed him, maybe he go away then! …What do you mean, feed with what? I just said, Nobles!"
Sorry, I can't upvote it. It's just too hilarious and I can't take it seriously. It would probably make an obscure and thus bad joke SCP, so I wont suggest making it one. But as main list it just isn't working for me. Tone is good, there is nothing explicitly funny in article itself, and yet I just can't stop laughing.
While it's well written, ultimately I'm not really feeling its SCPness.
Feeling up a fish? That's what mermaids are for.
This is well done, but holy crap, how do they interact with a molten lead containment room O_o
Still, well written, good tone, upvoted.
…am I the only one to see "Magma Carp" and think "what about the Gill of Rights"?
Anyone?
I have to get out more.
As for the article, I think I'll call it "okay but nothing to write home about". It just doesn't grab me… Maybe it's because I've never played DF.
…am I the only one to see "Magma Carp" and think "what about the Gill of Rights"?
We're too busy pursuing our Manifish Destiny
Because the declaration of indefindence says we can?
Is that where it is? I always thought it was in the Codstitution.
Nope. I fished through both dockuments, and it turns out it's in one of the afinnedments.
Good to know, I really regret tunaing out that information when I was in school.
edit: we really need to make these pun threads illegal or something, I just can't help myshellfish ( <- see I really can't )
Really? History always hooked me.
Really? I'd have considered a mar ican history to be a pretty bassic study.
Hey, get off your high perch. Just 'cause he learned it way back when doesn't mean he has to remember every pike-y little detail.
Fine. I'll let it get away for now, with the caviar he doesn't slip up again.
Sorry for the necropost, but since this hasn't been mentioned previously, why is this eulind? If you had a transparent containment vessel and super hot liquid, this could be a pet.
More over how exactly was this discovered, much less recovered alive? Someone with a magma strainer and some liquid lead get lucky?
Like the concept, especially the implication of an undermagma ecosystem, but the question of how the foundation got hold of it is to big for me. Downvoted for now.
As per this thread, necroposting is only if you comment on an old thread without introducing new discussion or adding a substantial point. You're not necroposting here.
In regards to the item class, I'm guessing it's Euclid because its behavior is not entirely understood, in that there's not guarantee it won't attempt to damage its containment unit.
If it doesn't have an origin story, it doesn't have an origin story. A lot of SCPs don't have origin stories; it's not a requirement (though it is definitely more common among recent SCPs).
