My 1000 contest entry. Many thanks go to Dr. Madd for fixing the image for me, and the guys who helped me edit it and clean it up. Solid feedback is, as always, greatly appreciated.
Posted it in the announcement thread, here it is: http://www.americanfolklore.net/folklore/2011/07/the_white_dog.html
I heard it so long ago I don't even remember where I heard it, then came across it again when doing research for the contest.
For a contest entry with a criterion that already somewhat promotes cliche, and that fulfills Brights challenge (it's a dog what fights good), this is really quite good. A nice atmosphere, generally quite interesting. My main question is: What happens if someone tries to get SCP-1000-2 down? I can see some ways to do so without getting too near SCP-1000-1.
Was re-reading the comments (because I'm a narcissist) and realized that I never responded to this.
I didn't bring it up because essentially, why would the Foundation try? It's a stable scenario as it is, and seeing as how the Foundation doesn't currently have a very good way of containing the dog, doing anything that seriously risks permanently upsetting the situation probably isn't worth the risk.
Uh, if it's a mix of a working dog (like a German Shepard is, clue is in the name) and a sight hound (like any kind of retriever) it's called a lurcher.
As I said in chat…
SCP-1000-2 constantly jerks and twitches in a manner consistent with those of a man being hanged; occasionally gasps for breath can also be heard. The violence and energy of these jerks is directly proprotional to SCP-1000-1's proximity to SCP-1000-2; as the distance between the two increases, the jerks and twitches decrease in violence and frequency.
This right here - and the implications of it - is worth my upvote.
However, I do wish there was more to this SCP. Hmmm.
This is just awesome. It gives the kind of atmosphere that would be great for SCP-1000.
if your reading this your gay
This really doesn't interest - let alone scare - me at all. It's well written, but I simply don't see anything interesting to it. I'm not sure what i'm missing, but i'm downvoting as of now. Barring any major developments in my understanding of the article.
I must say I quite enjoyed this. It was a neat article at first, if rather ordinary, then I came across the line "No, down boy." That did it for me.
