This fucks me up. It really does. I am unsure how to feel about this.
On the one hand, it's funny. Very funny. Funny in such a way that in a prior version of this review I made some passing reference to Mel Brooks, and any comparison to Mel Brooks, whether positive or negative means in the eyes of someone you're in the company of gods.
On the other, this is so disturbing, so incomprehensibly awful I feel ashamed - like, legitimately ashamed, as in right now I feel a little nauseated at myself - for enjoying this. I'm at something of a loss for words. While I feel the less tasteful elements of this article might've been mitigated by some further emotional foray into the implications of such a utterly horrific scenario, I think any IC acknowledgement of the abuse perpetrated would absolutely kill the levity you've created here. So here's what I've got:
I also think, on some off-kilter, genius level this article actually perfectly articulates these inanely tragic events in a way that is the complete, polar opposite of what they entail. And that's pretty brilliant. Certainly you've could've headed in the direction of something resembling The Children (of course an excellent piece in its own right) but I feel the tone manages to give it its own voice and also focus on the - I don't want to call a positive angle, because, no. It's Fuller's angle - his own fucked up way of changing the world to suit his whims and fix his problems, which is hell for most and heaven for others.
That's pretty much it. I liked this.
