It's simple and I like it. The only thing I don't like is the bit about the amnesia for the driver. I'd almost prefer gibbering insanity or the like.

I'd actually say that it would be better if they suffered no mental wiping or insanity at all. Considering they just killed a car full of passengers doing really stupid driving stunts, I think they'd be scarred enough.
But overall, yeah, it's a good one.
if your reading this your gay
You missed an SCP-XXX. :-)
I wonder what would happen if Dr. Gerald were to drive down this road…
What happens if you have no passengers? Alternatively, allow me to plant the mental image of SCP-704 pulling in a Segway.
No passengers = no reaction. It's only interested in turning people into killers IF it's truly "interested" at all.
Your mental picture, though, leaves me in stitches.
Upvote for greatness.
But it would be nice if the "only enters active phase if passengers are in the vehicle" were somehow clarified in the article.
Check out the new second addendum and let me know if it answers your questions. I have to admit, it answered mine as I was writing it.
The redundant mention of termination may be a little redundant. Good addendum, though.
This one rubs me the wrong way for reasons I can't completely explain. The writing's a little loose, and the premise feels just a little too silly for me, but the second addendum sealed the deal for the downvote. A scientist was terminated, as in KILLED (I know terminated can mean fired, but honestly, who uses it that way around here?) for conducting an experiment, because for whatever perverse reason they decided not to run the experiment through the chain of command first, and finally, I was under the impression that "demoted to D-Class" were words we were instructed to never type.
I dunno, I think the writing of the main article was as good as it could be. It's hard to make it clinical when you have to describe the emotions someone's expressing.
I agree that Addendum 2 detracts from the article, for the reasons DStecks mentioned. I think even the newest researchers would avoid testing a homicidal SCP on themselves, much less bribing someone to do so. As was also mentioned, "Demoted to D-Class" was overused long ago.
Change that Addendum to an experiment with a single Class-D driver resulting in the deaths at the guard post and I think you're solid.
You should [REDACT] the name of the forest.
What happens to horse-drawn vehicles? Or people on horseback?
And oh god, what would happen if this interacted with 973?
Well, Smokey is restricted to a specific road in a specific state. If he were to be relocated here, I'd assume it would become a hostile Keter-class road, which has a possibility of growing. This is a bad thing. I'm more worried about SCP-278 getting on here.
I'd like the forest to be blacked out, as well.
Smokey is restricted to a specific road in a specific state.
This road is in a specific forest in a specific state.
HOW CLOSE ARE THEY TO EACH OTHER?
Dunno. Smokey's on Route [XX], and this is in a National Forest. I suppose it would be as close as the story calls for it, but i'd probably say within a few states. I see Smokey somewhere in Utah, personally.
Downvoted for road hypnosis.
A road that is actively trying to buck you off of it is good enough on its own.
Down with mental compulsions!
Agreed. I think the compulsion should to drive on it should be removed. I am less offended by the mania it creates in the driver, I thought that was kind of nifty (mainly because a good friend of mine does this exact thing whenever we get on curvy roads). Overall I liked it, upvoted.
I listened to the wisdom of my more experienced amigos and removed the compulsion factor.
I kind of like the driver going into a manic state. There's definitely an entertainment value in imagining a driver that sees the most dangerous road in the world and screams "Challenge Accepted", as opposed to the mundanity of a road that (oh-no!) changes to kill you.
Nah, that's just one more SCP that has to force you to use it in order for there to be any danger.
It's far more entertaining in my mind to imagine the road actively bucking and writhing like some sort of terrible serpent that wants to fling you off and crush you. That's a much more terrifying situation, you don't die or suffer because you suddenly went crazy for no reason but because the circumstances are huge and unfair and it doesn't really matter what you do or think.
There can still be nutjobs who try to drive this road because they see it as a challenge. That's fine. But let them own their dangerous behavior rather than have it thrust upon them.
Also, I never stated that it took control of their minds, only that it influenced them into reckless behavior. I don't really see it as mind control so much as a flooding of endorphins and a severe loosening of inhibitions. Kind of like driving drunk without fear of consequences.
If this thing only activates when motor vehicles are present, and specifically does not activate for pedestrians…
what happens if we send out a big bunch of pedestrians, have them stand a few paces apart all the way down the road, and then send out a car?
Or what if we send out a very slow motor vehicle, slow enough that a human can keep pace with it the whole time?
What if we drill a hole in the gas tank so that the car runs out of fuel and can't enter any of the challenges? What if we build a car that operates on beamed power, and then cut the power?
Pretty obvious that bicycles wouldn't activate this… are horse-drawn carriages safe?
What if we secretly program the car with the route so that it drives itself, and the steering wheel is a placebo?
This sounds as meta and crazy as a 682 termination attempt.
What if Bruce Willis is really a woman?
I mean, dead?
We don't need any of those questions answered

I'm sorry, what?
Yo dawg, we heard you like vehicles! So we put a vehicle in your vehicle so you can SCP while you [DATA EXPUNGED]
