oh god the teeth.
I like this, but I'd question its Keter designation. There are at least some of these things out in the wild, and they aren't exactly inflicting massive damage upon humanity, especially given that they only usually attack humans under 25. If I remember correctly, Keter is for things that can and would be extremely dangerous if released…. this doesn't seem to fit.
Yeah, I think this'd be Euclid.
This doesn't do much for me. I like the pictures, but it feels too random and pointless.
Yeah that is a terrifying picture. I'm going through orthodontic treatment, and shortly after viewing that picture one of my teeth started to huuuuurt.
The picture is wonderful, but the article could use some work. It just… I dunno, it doesn't feel right, you know?
I had to cover up that image as I read, it was freaking me out so much.
I think this probably counts as keter due to the fact that they are A) very hard to contain, B) lethal, and C) very poorly understood.
My only issue here is the relative disconnection between the two aspects of the moths (the teleporting thing and the teeth thing).
With regards to A):
After recovery, they are to be kept in specialized vacuum-sealed lockers within Bio-Site 16. Instances of SCP-478 do not seem to be able to pass through solid matter, and thus may be held indefinitely unless damaged.
Extracted instances of SCP-478 do not seem to need to eat, sleep, breathe, or breed.
They're literally kept in boxes, and it's stated that once put in said boxes, no further interaction is necessary. I'm not saying this makes them "safe" by any means, but it does mean they're not too difficult to contain.
As far as B) goes:
This growth process will begin at a rate roughly twice as fast as normal tooth growth, and quickly increase in speed and severity.
They don't kill particularly fast; people are going to notice rather quickly when new teeth begin to erupt from the roof of their mouths and seek treatment.
"Keter objects are naturally inimical to life". This is a direct quote.
"Merely being inimical to human life is not in itself cause for classification as a Keter-level object. A Keter classification indicates that not only is this subject capable of inflicting devastating harm to human life and civilization, but that containment protocols must be extensive, involved, and precisely followed in order to prevent it from doing so. Research into the neutralization of Keter-class SCPs is always a top priority for the Foundation."
It's a parasitic butterfly that causes extra dental growth all over the digestive tract over a period of time. It is easily treatable as mentioned in the containment procedures and not THAT fatal. It's like saying chicken pox should be Keter because it can kill adults very quickly if caught even though there are known cures that are effective.
Euclid seems correct.
I must admit that I was quite disappointed when it turned out that the moths didn't somehow rip the additional teeth off and used them for breeding.
Still, I guess not knowing why 478 causes the uncontrollable teeth growth does make them creepier. And the second picture is magnificent, although I wonder if a report on these creatures shouldn't have a close-up picture of the moth instead of that far-away one, to facilitate their identification by people that are working with it for the first time.
When I looked at the picture of the "moth", I thought it looked more like a miniature raptor or eagle rather than a moth. The wings looks wrong, it even looked like there were only two.
This isn't Keter, might be Euclid. But I'm not really feeling this one. The picture with the teeth doesn't squick me, but then again, I've got my own buttons.
Neutral at the moment…
This feels like two other SCPs we already have.

That second image is amazing, but what really got me was
All teeth are normal beyond placement, containing a root, nerve and enamel.
…
They grow in your stomach, and are specifically mentioned as susceptible to digestive acids. Imagine the pain as digestive acid hits the nerve of a cluster of teeth. Oh God.
Until I read your post I thought this was interesting. Now I have a wave of phantom pain in my stomach. Upvoted.
I find myself swallowing and licking the roof of my mouth anxiously. Upvoted.
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
You know, after some thought I'm wondering if people are upvoting the pic or the SCP itself. If the pic wasn't there, would you still have upvoted it? Please be honest.
I would argue that it doesn't matter, but like I posted above, I upvoted for the teeth-in-my-digestive-tract-oh-god aspect.
My nightmares for the next month or so thank you for that.
