Yes this is an art contest! Hopefully we can see a grand generation of great art to commemorate a decade of SCP! Yay!

What happens if someone draws a conglomeration of skips from different series? Which category will be it designated?
I also am curious as to this. And some other bits for like the characters and GOI categories.
I want to ask…
Take this as an example: Let's say you draw a depiction of a piece of in universe media affected by and mentioned in SCP-2747, or draw some sort of fight between Goldox and a random boss from SCP-2219. Neither are art directly of the skips themselves, but relate to, or are part of them in some way. Which category would that stuff be in?
You can also post the art in this thread, and if you really love us you can put the category stuff in a collapsible label along with the file name <3.
suggesting link to the original thread? Or is it okay to post the arts here? Sounds inefficient, but as you'd have to watch both thread anyway it might be just fine.
Can there be a Tales category? They're their own thing for sure, and I'd hate to see all tale stuff just grouped in with Characters.
What criteria will be used for judging? Like as an example, I'd hate to make an entry for a relatively obscure article and then find out that the cultural significance of the subject matter is a factor.
Also, since this includes all forms of visual art, there's the possibility that someone will want to use third-party assets, so you may want to include a bit about Creative Commons.
if your reading this your gay
Maybe throw in some preferred dimensions?
IE: "While a 25,600 x 900 px medieval-tapestry-style image depicting the history of the daevite empire would be awesome, it would also be very difficult to display at the top of a hub page"
The width of the content box for pages is 707 px, so call 700 px wide a good round number for maximum width. Specifying a maximum height might be a good idea, too: Standard large horizontal web banner size is a widescreen format of 2.4:1 because lower ratios tend to take over a page, so that would be 700x300px in this case. Compare that to the ~1.4:1 ratio of a sheet of A4 paper and you've got a page where the first screen is a 700x500px image unless you crop it or reduce it even farther.
For those entering, pro tip: Take a cue from the old masters who made huge paintings meant to be viewed from across the room; working several times larger than final display size is a good idea. Just reduce the final image before posting to save everyone some bandwidth.
Also: multiple entries or no?
Limiting aspect ratio is good for the reasons you listed. Limiting resolution, however, is going to cut the details out of some people's works.
The resolution is inherently limited, though- they can't be wider than 707px without breaking the page formating. It's something important for people to consider, especially artists who may not be used to dealing with a resolution limit.
Count me in.
Just to make sure, We're making make multiple arts, each arts for each categories, right? Or did I read that wrong?
Also, echoing what the above user said, multiple entry or no?
(Thirding the people above me BTW. Please, please, please make multiple categories allowed.)
What are the criteria used to judge 'lesser known works'? Would these be decided by net upvotes on the article, or general popularity in the fanbase? I think that this might be hard to decide. For example, SCP-166 is rated far lower than SCP-3008, but is more famous and widely depicted in fan works. So between these two, which one would get more credits? And what about scips that are borderline-famous (having a high rating and a few pieces of fan art), like say, SCP-469 or Roget's Proposal? This might be useful to know, and specification could encourage the creation of more obscure content.
Also, what about GOI? As far as I know, all of the GOI (except for perhaps the Chaos Insurgency, because of CB and all that…) are relatively unknown in the offsite fandom. Evidence of this can be seen in the DA group, where the GOI folder only has around 20-35 artworks (from memory). Thanks for answering all these questions.
Edit: Changed some examples which had higher ratings than what I remembered.
There is no limit on the number of entries someone can submit. Will answer remaining questions in this space when not working.
The definition of lesser-known works is left to the discretion of the judges. They will consist of people familiar with the site, probably but not necessarily authors.
The GoIs are plenty well known, the dA isn't a good example of popularity as all of its archives were wiped within the past few months by a hacker and it's been slowly repopulating since then.
