Minor nitpick: "the erupting flames around their charge." I'm pretty sure the whole flames from explosives is just a hollywood thing. I suggest changing "flames" to "debris".

I am in awe. Now I just need to figure out what the hell that thing at the end was.
Is there going to be some sort of continuation, or will the [suspense/mystery/cliffhanger] of that ending remain forever?

Well, admittedly, I've been working on it off and on for a while, now. Someone altered their in-universe character significantly, and it's messed up my plot quite a bit. No worries, though! It will get finished sooner or later.
