I see what you did there.
Overall, it seems decently enough written. A few words seem out of place, 'piecemeal' for example. Some of the test logs seem like they could use something…more, I suppose. Too much is left unexplained in them about what is being seen. While this can be good for some things, and it is good to not explain everything, it seems to leave out a bit too much here.
The termination of D-Class seems a bit excessive for an SCP like this, as well. But, that might just be me.
Thanks; it's my first effort, and I'm still working on getting the wording right.
I agree that the test logs need more, but I was trying to avoid falling into the 'It kills everyone' cliche, as well as putting too much into it at first. I have a number of ideas to explore with it, like the idea that the perception of the object is required, so that sedating a subject into unconsciousness (or having their eyes eaten/plucked/otherwise rendered inoperable) could terminate the effect.
As to the termination of D-Classes.. I think you may be right; I was trying to maintain the normal, rather callous feel about them (since they will be terminated at the end of the month, anyway), but perhaps the survivors should be help for additional testing.. I.e., test until destruction or their time is up.
Thanks for the feedback, tho.. I'm rather pleasantly surprised at the response, for a first effort :)
Only thing that jumped out was:
If the subject is unable to see more than ███% of the image
The smallest number that suggests to me is 100, but then that sentence makes no sense.
Otherwise, upvoted.
Yeah; I wasn't too sure how to do that.. I went with the idea of letting the user assume a decimal place or something, but that really doesn't work. I'll change it shortly. Thanks :)
Thanks; I just dropped it to ██%, tho.. After thinking about it, I realized that that degree of precision was.. Well, if nothing else would take WAY too many Class D's to determine.. So a two digit percentage was enough. :)
On the one hand, we do already have a few windows to other places. On the other hand, it's a Magic Eye. I can't put my finger on why, exactly, I like this thing so much, but I do. It's delightful.
+1.
Many thanks! That's kind of what I was working from.. Those bloody things are fascinating, especially when you have learned to see them, but can't quite see a specific image. (See Mallrats for a silly example.)
And, yeah… the window to another place thing has been done, but I thought one that you had to kind of work to use, with no clue what you were going to see until it was too late, was more.. Dunno. You have to open yourself up to see it.. and now that you do, you're exposed.. Kinda working on that particular fear, plus the fascination :)
So, does this work even if you've never been able to do those images before?
For instance, I can be told exactly what to look for, but I still can't see the hidden picture.
If the subject is unable to see more than ███% of the image
Deleting one of those blacked out numerals, since I doubt there should be three.
D-6744 suddenly blanched, turned very pale, and began to vomit.
Also deleting either "blanched" or "turned very pale", since they mean the same thing.
