Hello all!

This is my first mainlist submission.

I'm reserving this top message in case I want to put an image on this later (assuming it lasts long enough, of course)

Been a while. Edited out some artifacts of a dumber time in my life. Foundation no longer calls the native islanders by a cutesy name, and refers to them in a more generally professional manner. Small fix of the longitude issue mentioned below. Now that the article isn’t as new, I don’t expect many people to see these changes, but if you do, leave a review and tell me what you thought!

Not bad. A few grammar mistakes which I don't have time to list but I'm sure someone will…

My only critique is what happens to the eaten people. It's not very clearly explained, and not even sure I get it. Light stops reflecting off them, they're perceived only telepathically (by everyone?) but still material until they turn into radiation?

Is that even right? If so, I think simplifying it would be a little better… Just slowly painlessly fade away or something, I dunno. Definitely at least explain it better.

But, I like the concept and story!

That's pretty much exactly what happens lol

If crosslinking weren't looked down upon, I would add a thing in there about how the telekill alloy blocks perception of them, rendering them invisible. Thank you for reviewing nontheless!

I believe the general perception of crosslinking has changed - see The Grand Crosslinking.

That being said, I'm not sure Telekill is necessarily a great crosslink considering its widespread use in early series I. Still, my personal opinion is that people starting with series II onwards probably won't have that perception.

I'm not sure the final note adds anything (it comes off as a very condescending "Well, obviously, he's wrong", not very professional) but otherwise, I like this. Mirror-based horror is a well-trodden ground, but you've managed to do something pretty memorable with mirrors and bears. Why bears? That's so neat.

I tweaked the final note a bit to come off as more "cautious" than "condescending". Thank you for your input!

Honestly, I just like bears. They've always struck a chord in me as being particularly awe inspiring. So when I needed something to populate the mirror forest I had created, I thought "Why not bears?" I'm really glad you liked it though.

Given they are basically huge walking masses of pure muscle, it's not all that surprising. Especially the grizzly and polar bears. Thanks for upvoting, though!

This was a solid submission for a first. The way it functions is well-constructed and fairly unique at that. +1.

If I were to hazard a guess, the reason it isn't garnering a whole lot of attention is because the list name doesn't really "grab" you in the same way some others do.

Let's look at the other titles around the area I'm in…

Perhaps when this was posted, it was buried in a sea of other articles. It's harder to stand out in a crowd. However, some of those articles do face deletion and that which survives will get the light that they deserve… eventually.

Just wait for a few days. Accelerando will get to you eventually. He keeps tracks of articles slated for tagging by tracking untagged pages. So long the page is completely untagged, you're on his radar. It's just that there're quite a number of untagged articles.

You technically may do it yourself, but you need to have a clear and good understanding of what tags are applicable.

The little factual and tonal errors in this really add up. (For one thing, there is literally no possible point in the Pacific Ocean that has a one-digit longitude. The Prime Meridian runs through England, dude.) Worse, the anomaly explanation is confusing. -1.

Reading this, I get some serious reminders of SCP-919. It would not be too out of line for researchers to notice this similarity as well and note it in the document. As such, I am recommending the following edits:

Any organism which is incapable of fending off SCP-3877-2 and reverting to normal reflection is also to be considered an instance of SCP-3877-3.

I don't like the way the indigenous people are described. To call their social heirarchy "tribal" is exceedingly vague, and to refer to their tools as such is basically meaningless. Going with just a tiny bit of specificity here could help; maybe something along the lines of "…a social structure consisting of tribes of around [X] number of individuals, led by local chiefs. Their technology level is on par with that of the [A] culture from [B] island" (filled in or redacted as you see fit). Not a big fan, either, of the Foundation giving the indigenous culture a cutesy nickname, and nowhere referring to them by the name they give themselves.
