Didn't get ninja'd this time, mwahaha. Thanks to shaggydredlocks, Railgun45, Zachary Maxwell, and MrWrong for giving me feedback on this one!
Yeah I used 'succ' in an SCP, you got a problem with that? kappa
This is a fairly simple idea that's done quite well! The fact that -1 can only alter the perception of its summoner I find really interesting. Almost makes it feel like a 'knockoff' sort of thing; like, acts like a real demon, but isn't as cool. There's some pretty good GoI potential here. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I've got no real plans at the moment to reuse Asmodeus Labs, but come to think of it, there's a surprising shortage of GoIs dedicated to magic. Well, that call it that at least.
I think Asmodeus could've been folded in under Prometheus, but apart from that quibble I giggled like a three year old at the "Bob" reference. If it's related to the Laundry Files you get bonus points.
Huh, never knew that article existed.
Also I have no idea what the Laundry Files are lol but as long as it made you laugh.
Asmodeus Labs seems like it could be a spinoff of Prometheus Labs applied goetics program after the breakup.
Also Bob was the name of the "Fire Walk With Me" demon in Twin Peaks.
As in Prometheus and Bob, from the old KaBlam! cartoons?
… I'll get me coat.
This subverted my expectations really well - by setting up 'thing that summons demons' in a setting where that's totally believable, I then felt properly disappointed and tricked at the slow realisation that it's just a cheap perception trick. This nicely emulates the real-life experience of buying crappy knockoff toys and tricks as a kid.
There are some definite tonal issues here (your use of 'succ' feels particularly forced in context), but this is excellently structured.
It's always lovely to see a draft I helped with be so successful (: Congratulations! I always liked the idea :3
You set up family friendly demon summoning, I say to myself "yeah this doesn't end well", and then in a freakin' coup you literally give me family friendly demon summoning! Fun to read, amazingly paced for the payoff.
This is a lot of fun. I can't believe I'm upvoting a skip with the word 'succ' in it, but that's definitely part of the reason I'm upvoting. And I love that they're like, hey, real blood works too, if that's what does it for ya!
I do have to say, it seems like the testing logs might all be from the same test, rather than individual activations. I mean, it lasts for two hours, right? All that stuff could happen in two hours.
Thanks!
Yeah, I wrote it as this was all taking place during one test, or relevant information spliced together from more than one. It didn't really feel relevant to mention either way.
Fantastic. This guy is like the magic version of Sea-Monkeys, wherein a whole lot is promised on the packaging, but in reality, ehhhhh, it's okay, I guess. :)
"and succ on this" made me laugh quite a bit, thank you for that.
+1!
