"What a senseless waste of human life."
Now me? I would have done it on the moon, but that's because I roll that way.

Sorry for necro but it would be much harder to recontain, and in the process of it rushing to the moon every human who look up onto the sky might be killed by the SCP too and it could easily result in billion of casualties.

It's got pretty much unlimited speed and strength, so if it can jump, and I don't see any reason why it can't, it can jump well.
Wait, I can do forum signatures?
This really captures the feeling towards D-classes. I like it. I would like to see one on the moon, or in deep space, because that would be a pretty effective way to neutralize it.
Yeah, I'd like to see it go into Earth orbit. Then leave it there, plot its orbit, and make sure the Shuttles steer clear of it. Although I wonder how it would get up there, and what's to say it won't survive. After all, it dove to 11km, with no ill effects, something which should definitely NOT be possible. Upvote!
Sure, keeping it in orbit would work… until some amateur astronomer focused a little too well…
So people don't accidentally see it and cause a massive containment breach…or an XK (I think that was it) end-of-the-world scenario.
I know I am very late to the party, sorry about that… Can someone explain the process by which a recovery team would go about capturing 096? Perhaps helmet visors equipped with face polygon recognition which then automatically blurs out that area, blocking the viewer from seeing its face? If there is a page that details the various SCP teams (recovery, anti-memetic cognitio-hazard, assault, etc.) and the tactics they use,I would love the link. Great SCP file over all. Well done.
I believe that once 096 goes back into it's calm state they come up behind it and black bag it. They did try a visor that pixilated the face automatically called SCRAMBLE but it didn't end well.
They basically attempt the very thing you have described through Project SCRAMBLE, with less-than-optimal results, as documented in Incident 096-1-A.
The effects only trigger if you see its face, so if you just approach from behind and put a bag over its head while it's docile, containment can be restored.
You cant do thAt,read the other logs the person sees its face for a split second as the machine is slower then light
Someone needs to draw this. I think someone in the chat said he did, said it was really good, but he never showed it. So we need an artist to sketch it like the D-Class did.
A very ingenius way to get a picture of what SCP-096 looked like. And chilling too, knowing just how indestructible and unstoppable SCP-096 is that, even with so many measures in place, it was a foregone conclusion that the D-class would be killed.
To be honest, I kind of want the sketch of SCP-096 to be posted here (or even on the main article).
Anyway, upvoted.
There's nowhere near New Zealand 10.8km deep. The world's deepest point is 10,911 metres.
I'm sorry about the year-old necro, but I feel this is worth addressing:
The document claims that the Bathysphere was lowered into the Tonga Trench, which is 10,882 metres at its deepest point. New Zealand is located 2.2 km away from the Tonga Trench, but there's nothing in the document to say that 096 was ever contained in New Zealand. Tonga is only 260 km away from the trench, which fits neatly in the three-digit number the document gives us.
