I'm sure a lot of people here are familiar with the sensation of staring at a piece of fiction for so long that you cease to be able to perceive it as text. I have to post this now because I am losing my marbles and the slot is getting popular.

This is technically/possibly the first part of a new Antimemetics Division series Five Five Five Five Five.

Many thanks to user reaper600 for the keypad design and source code, to Rimple for suggesting how to do the very last section, and I think it was werdna who tried (and arguably failed) to steer me away from stuffing all of the important information into an Addendum.

Note to translators! The Wikidot markup is encrypted so that readers can't hit "View source" to bypass the keypad. This makes it impossible to translate the original! You have several options:

• You can find an unencrypted version of the page here, although note that translations of that version will be vulnerable to the "View source" attack.
• If you would like to produce an encrypted, translated version, use this small JavaScript project.

Hmm, I kinda really enjoy the concept of this SCP, I haven't read it yet, but the format screw sure makes me interested. Good job.

I'll admit that I just bypassed it by finding the hidden div in the page source and removing the Display:None on the element. Almost feels like hacking my way into a (not very) secure Foundation site.

It would be if people guessed randomly. 5 is in the middle of the keypad, and it's easy to click repeatedly… I could see it being the first pick for someone taking potshots at the problem. It's like making "password" your password.

Thought "and SCP+█████" was a typo until reading theories in the comments. Or maybe it was originally a typo, but now it represents syntax for antimemetic SCPs.

so, i just built a way to decrypt this, was quite easy and i thought I was cool, 2 minutes later I find out, that the code is already known. If you would like to see my """"hacked"""" version, I can send it to you. I basically used the code against itself.
Well a lot of time wasted, but i wanted to tell you that this was really awesome. Haven't had this much fun in some time

HECK yes. I loved Case Colourless Green/Your Last First Day and I was hoping you would eventually revisit the entity described in those tales.

Heh, hiding the code in the comments? Very nice. I knew the code would be related to the number 5, somehow, but I didn't think it was just… That. Wheeler, you gotta up your password security!

Anyway. I never got to give you feedback for We Need to Talk About Fifty-Five and the Antimemetics Division series as a whole. It is to date one of my favorite short stories. You managed, in the course of a few short works, to make me really, really care for Wheeler, Kim, and her entire Antimemetics Division.

Which is why that last note in this entry absolutely breaks my heart.

Just once, I wanted to see the Foundation win. I wanted to see us overcome the incredible, impossible odds, to see Wheeler's ingenuity and Kim's intellect and the remaining survivors in the Antimemetics Division pull through somehow. They didn't, of course. This isn't the universe where we win.

But thank you, regardless, for writing a stunning piece that made me hope. Here's to Wheeler and her Division, may they rest in peace.

Edit: Aaaand I just saw Addendum 3.

While I had a rough idea about what the ending was going to be (prior conversation), this was still gripping to read. A wonderful way to lead into Five Five Five Five Five.

So, this is a fantastic SCP, and I'm glad it's being posted now, as Series 4 is getting under way and finding its own identity. This reminds me a ton of my own SCP, SCP-3002, particularly in how 3125 spreads and even the use of Site-41. I'm sure it was unintentional, but it makes me love it even more. This is the easiest I've ever given an SCP a +1.

Well, taking in count SCP-3125 is actually the oldest SCP-3k entry, I'd say that yours look like qntm's! Anyways, I really enjoyed a lot both articles and I am upvoting the hell out of this one.

Holy the actual fuck did I randomly guess the passcode just by typing. I literally just went "uh, 55555" and it worked. I am now wondering if I'm just a pawn of luck now ;-;.

Although I'm not a fan of the keypad (I just opened the page source and read from there) I did enjoy the story told, and the challenges involved in containing something of this sort.

However, I also am very excited regarding the use of Fifthism Theta-Prime. I've been slowly working that narrative into On Mount Golgotha, most clearly in the tale Empedocles, and I've even brainstormed on how Theta-Prime functions both mathematically, and numerologically (where there are Four, there is a Fifth… and a Theta-Primeth).

We should talk sometime.

Granted, having read that tale series not long ago, this kind of just felt like a rehash of what it covers. But at least there's a cool symbol and a distressingly opaque puzzle involved? :B
