This didn't really do anything for me. There's a cool little bit of cruel irony at the end, but it failed to hold my interest prior to that point. The test logs were functional, but dull for the most part.

It's hard to write interesting tests about a person waiting in a room, we tried to have small moments of interest in each one to build off of stuff written earlier in the article and get in detail like the ticking clock. I hope it's short enough that you didn't find it interminably dull and I'm glad you enjoyed the end.

Reminds me a little of the generations of people living their whole lives in a waiting room in a palace (surviving on coffee and donuts) in Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun.

Huh. Neat

Being stuck in a waiting room is a pretty ubiquitous experience, and you two take the that to a very serious extreme with there being nothing to wait for, yet people wait on. Its very Kafkaesque, and for that reason the article works for me.

I think you'd get a little more bang for your buck in the test log if you addressed what happens when multiple people are allowed to wait together, but that's bonus round for me.

This just… doesn't do much for me, to be perfectly honest. I didn't find myself moved by it, and the concept seemed a little too straightforward and basic for my liking - of course they aren't fully aware of how long they spent, of course they don't need to eat or sleep.

Tickets start at 024 and progress to 999 before running out.

And later it's mentioned that tickets 127 and higher were used in testing.

I was trying to imply that not every test was included with this documentation. I didn't make it more explicit because it's a minor detail and I feel like the Foundation wouldn't always put up roadsigns when they deliberately neglect to include something in classified documentation.

There's almost not enough going on here, but the final log is really kind of unsettling. Like, something went terribly wrong here, and no one's sure why. I get the feeling no one ever will.

Agreed, but the complete lack of any indicator of the room's origin, purpose, or what exactly people wait for kills it for me.

That's actually the heartbreaking part for me. I DON'T like it, but there's such great writing to support the idea it's almost a shame to downvote it.

This was great. I got quiet tingles. Soft, insidious effect, never trying to break into anything overstated or plot-twisty. "I don't know. The door was unlocked" fucked me up in all the right ways.

One thing I don't like - placing it inside a cave, and having the opening be a picture of a cave entrance. O, Death and Somewhere In the Between both did it, and I think a version of The Reliquary had it too for a while. The first two times I opened this page, I saw a cave entrance and checked out. I feel like this would be much better served with a picture of the room, or no picture at all (though I know Roget would hate the latter). Doesn't change my upvote, tho.
