This is really, really good. Upvoted with gusto and applause.
Seconding.
Also, fridge logic kicked in just now…
The title.
But… Wait… FUCK.
holy shit.
That… but… it…
Woah.
Fridge Logic/Brilliance. Bravo.
+1
I'm distinctly reminded of a comic book series I own where reality has been canonically overwritten and reconstructed several times.
So, basically, here's how my thought process went.
Step 1: See it has 20 upvotes
Step 2: Start to read it, not particularly impressed
Step 3: Get to about 4 paragraphs from the end
Step 4: "F*** you, Gears, that's either horrifying or amazing."
Step 5: 21 upvotes.
heh…reading these comments, I started to chuckle, seeing the fridge logic hit. However, since I have a very nasty cold, it was much deeper and more rasping then normal, and followed by a hacking cough. I also happened to have a large, fluffy cat in my lap at the same time…so yeah, I might be transforming in to a Bond villain…
I almost bowed out of this contest because I couldn't think of how to make the story chilling. Then I thought "what if the world ended, and nobody knew." Like TVTropes says, status quoe is god, even at The End. Glad folks have liked it so far!
Let me get this straight, the continent got split up and the document got swept into the resulting trench/ocean when his house was put underwater? The SCP foundation created the Atlantic?
Well, he said there was a huge ravine next to his house, and that he was going to toss the note in to it, in the hopes that "they" wouldn't find it and destroy it. What relationship that has to it's location of finding is up to you. As for making a ocean, or other rather severe actions, I really can't say for sure what the truth may be. However, looking at the items The Foundation has at it's disposal, is it really that far fetched? There's one stone-like item (i forget the number) that may have had a hand in creating the oceans of earth, and many others that can create or re-create almost anything. Yes, it's a fantastic claim…but with the right tools, and enough time…
I know this is bonkas old, but I always saw this as him burying it, then the foundation literally concreting over the top of the old world, but due to continental drift the Mariana trench formed, allowing access to where the document was buried, along with the remmnants of a buried world that still lies beneath us.
Augh! Gears! You — my god that is brilliant and brain-melting and oh dear lord. WIN.
probably one of the best things I've ever read here, this is the kinda thing that makes SCP awesome.
I couldn't agree more. That was absolutely brilliant. Subtle, well-handled enough to be believable, unfathomable enough to be terrifying. Love it. +1, up to +44 now.
