Hi, my name is Trixie. You might also know me as Decibelle. Since I'm gonna write stuff in 2017 again, I figure it'd be a good time to do a bit of spring cleaning. Never satisfied with how my author page looked, so I just cut a bunch of it off and reposted it with a bit of changed content. New year, new me.
There were some stories I wrote as addena to my current stories that got lost, so here they are:
Rose Labelle looked nervous, sitting outside one the many conference rooms in Site-19 as she awaited the judgement of her peers and bosses. It was one thing to present a skeleton of something you're working on to colleagues, and a whole other to present something you poured your heart and soul into for approval. She couldn't have been more nervous, and for a few slow, crawling minutes, she wanted to disappear with the world.
Finally, the door to the room opened and she saw the panel she had presented her work in front of, walking out and discussing casual business among themselves. They all looked to Rose and nodded, smiling at her as they went about their separate ways at the start of the fork outside the lobby. One person had remained at the door, motioning for Rose to be invited in. Though she had seen everyone look at her with approval, the worry still had weighed on her and questions ran through her mind.
What if everyone hated it? Can I get demoted for this kind of thing? Do they think this is crazy? Could this even work in full-scale? But if-
"Rose?" the man called. She looked up, startled by the sudden voice. "You seem a bit worried."
"N-Naturally, sir." Already, her confidence from earlier melted away like warm butter.
"Please, Victor is fine. Have a seat. It might get the edge off of you a bit, hmm?" He pulled out a chair across the table and went to sit as his seat. Rose obliged, silently wondering if this would be easier than studying skips. With that, Victor cleared his throat and began to speak.
"All of us were impressed by your work and project, and it's something we dearly need here at Site-19. Like you mentioned, the potential for simulating possible disasters and breaches that could happen would improve on resources tremendously. I do have to wonder though; why did you choose to use yourself as a showcase for your program?" With this, he studied Rose's face, searching for any signs of weakness (or so she thought).
"Well, er, I figured knowing my personality and how I worked, it'd be easiest to simulate myself. And, you know, it's easier to simulate a ZK-scenario than any other kind of disaster. It is the universe literally breaking apart, after all." For a minute, she had said nothing else, and the two were in limbo, waiting for the other to speak. Finally, Victor had broken the silence.
"Very impressive," he remarked with a smile on his face. "This is the kind of thing we've been trying to work on for the past five years, and you were able to do it yourself in just four? This is exactly why we hired you." He nodded and handed over a form for Rose, while she stared confusingly at it.
"Sir, uh, Victor, what exactly is this?"
"Well, with your permission, we'd like you to contract you to work on some more simulations to do another presentation at a site down in Georgia. You'll be taken off your current position as a researcher while you work on this full-time."
With that, Rose's confidence went back up and burst through as the biggest smile to cross her face in recent memory formed. That was all it took for her to sign and spend the next two years developing her program.
Better than studying technical monstrosities, at the least.
"So what you're telling me is… Olivia Lee never existed?" It was Dr. K. Dorsett who broke the silence first. He and Dr. H Garrett were sitting at a table together, examining interviews and information compiled on SCP-2740. The one piece of information they had studied the most was an interview with Rebecca Feldman, A.K.A. Olivia Lee, A.K.A. nobody.
"Yeah… that seems about right," Garrett replied. Dorsett sighed as they kept going through everything they had.
"We need to write a report up by tomorrow with some kind of course of action. What else can we say anyways but 'Let's keep doing what we usually do, and by the way, this one girl we thought existed didn't!'?" Dorsett sounded exasperated, but nonetheless started taking notes on the different documentation.
"There's not much we can do, is there? We already have solid containment procedures. The only matter is figuring out what to do as far as Olivia is concerned. I mean, she's…" Garrett trailed off, searching for a word to use.
"What? Nobody?"
"I guess so. She's nobody now. We might as well go find her friends and interview them, right?"
"Provided it turns out we never went to interview them at all, sure. Can you even tell me how you got this interview, Harold?" Dorsett questioned. Garrett tried to search for a response, but all he could muster was stammers and fragments of sentences. Eventually, he sighed and shrugged.
"I dunno. All I really know is I interviewed her… somehow," Garrett answered with hesitation. Dorsett frowned, but knew he had to be telling the truth, and went to write down more notes.
"So… that's the plan then? Go interview friends and family?"
"Yeah."
"And if it turns out we can't do them at all?"
"We have our work cut out for us."
"Hey… Jade?"
"Yeah, Bella?"
"You're not like… bored of me, are you?"
"…"
"…"
"Why ask that?"
"I know we've both been working much more than we expected but we still have time for each other, right?"
"Yeah. We do. I promise."
"Alright. Who needs some dumb boys when I have you anyway?"
"Heh."
"…"
"…it feels nice to be in your arms."
