This just really, really feels like something Jude would make. It's really good.
Also on another note, this scp is a good look into the community's new nature. Which is to say not writing weird rape articles anymore.

For context as to its creation: I dislike SCP-1800. That's pretty much the impetus.
edit: SHIT. credit to sandrewswann for sections carried over from 1800's text, which was heavily consulted in 1168's creation. I apologize for the tardiness on this; I thought the mere mention of 1800 would've been sufficient credit, as it was a textual source, but I'm going to make this more explicit because it needs to be.
Good that it's more than just a critique of an article that hasn't aged well; it's also great at character. Better than the draft I read.
I need to upvote this at least 300 times.
Edit: no but seriously, if this gets more votes than 1800 I will be very happy. :p
I really like how Jude is written in the addendum, I think it works off of what 1800 has in place and, from what I understand about the rest of GAW, why it became a splinter cell. +1 and I'm excited to see more of this GOI!
This is a well done mix of humor and character development, and is much better than the article being parodied.
+1
I'm a little confused. At first I thought this was just a tweaking of an earlier SCP, but this statue targets people different from 1800? Sex offenders instead of innocents?
And the interviewee was somehow connected to 1800, it killed someone he knew, and he…I don't know, was blackmailed into activating 1168 for some reason?
There's a story here, but I can't make the connection.
Last line of the SCP reads "current evidence suggests Mr. Kriyot was the creator of the object." Jude lied about creating it to get the Foundation off his back.
However, other than the implication he was blackmailed into activating it, Jude's being genuine.
The main impetus for him creating the statue, then, and why it mirrors 1800 so closely, is because it was designed to get catharsis from having "someone he knew" be a victim to it.
As well, the mirroring is a catharsis due to having been a part of AWCY to begin with, to satirize how inane The Minotaur was while claiming it art. Specifically, the Chuck-E-Cheese tokens takes a potshot at The Minotaur taking coins, the middle finger point to Minotaur's point, the "ritualized interactions" being nothing but a meme, etc.
As for the character, he's further characterized in both the crosslinks to Different Kinds of Nihilism and The Assassination of Beleaguered Normalcy by the Coward Gamers Against Weed, as well as different GAW tales, if you'd like to further understand him. I'd recommend it; it might give some further depth to this, and they're all wonderful reads.
Okay, late to the party, here, but I have to ask something. TV Tropes interpreted this as him letting them believe he created it to get them off his back, which:
a) Makes no sense.
b) Seems to be the exact opposite of what you were actually saying.
Was that them messing up, or did I misread this comment?
Sorry for the super late response.
Jude was lying when he said The Critic was the one who blackmailed him into activating the statue. Jude was trying to pin the statue's creation on The Critic (by implication, I don't think he outright says it) to avoid notice from the foundation.
TV Tropes got it wrong.
Huh, and I just happened to be popping in 3 days later and found this response. (Is there some way to get notified of replies that I'm missing? Or am I already and just overlooking them?)
