Does this guy just do contests now or what

I've been kinda thinking about this idea for a little while, but I wasn't really sure how I wanted to play it until the history contest came out, which helped shape the way that I took the piece. Thanks to the people who gave it a quick look.

I like the time travel aspect here, I still wish there was more variety in the documentation but I also think it make sense for Foundation precursors to have somewhat comparable documentation. +1

I am rather ambivalent towards some of the takes on the other Foundation iterations, especially the circus-themed one (which feels left-field). The non-chronological approach is initially a bit difficult to follow (I thought how would the Foundation tell their past iterations to keep the guy contained), but I suppose it builds up from the past to the present and future.

The ending of the article has impact and it ended on a good note, good enough to bypass the faults IMO.

The circus is actually not a Foundation related organization, and the implications of that are something that I'll leave to the audience to think about.

Rodriguez fears that the man has already made his way back into the past, where he has changed the Foundation presumably for the worst as an act of revenge. But (as far as I can tell), there aren't any abnormalities with the present article that should signify a shift in timelines, and the weird McCarthy Foundation in the 50s seems like it's a thing that didn't remain that way for very long.

I don't think 2896 traveled to the past to change things for revenge. I think he traveled back to make things right.

I'm more inclined to believe that the changes are not even intentional. The very moment he coudl travel across time was it for the time stream.

This is a really solid article, and I'm glad to have reviewed it. While the documents are kind of long for the level of relevance they add, I understand why they could be necessary.

In all seriousness, I really dig this. The effect is interesting, with far reaching consequences (especially if our poor lost quantum leaper has caused a horrible temporal cataclysm somewhere), and the various iterations of containment were neat and added plenty of flavor to the article.

Personally I'd love to read a tale in which Xyank is working on keeping this guy anchored to a fixed timeline.

I didn't want to upvote this, because it's literally "what if 507 was time instead", but the McCarthy-era document pushed it over the edge of "and also not as fun". :P

You get a +1 from me for a good ending with the Level 4 addition, though I do agree with TL333s assessment that it's basically 507 but time instead. One sentence confused me even though I got the gist:

"An updated copy of SCP-2896’s containment documentation should be maintained in a secure storage locker along with all previous containment documents have been found in (see addendum for more details)."

Something about the sentence structure is weird. Maybe just take out the "have been found in"?

ETA: Another comment after mulling over the Level 4 bit: would the separate iterations of the Foundation attempt to establish a model of 2896's timeline somehow? Like at least for the current Foundation, I would think they'd try to carbon date or measure his telomeres to gain perspective on when he is in regards to himself.

TVbomb's right. It might make sense to add daily hair,skin, or blood sampling. Precise telomeric age identification may or may not be in the Foundation's abilities today, but is likely not far off, and having samples since maybe 2007 would be useful in constructing a timeline for him. Also, even with techniques as subtle as an insulin tester, it would be ironic (always feel like I'm misusing that…) if the modern Foundation was oblivious to its own additions to Vladimir's tribulations.
Monday-2017-Doctor has me sprayed down and deloused, then takes samples.Always more samples.
Tuesday-1952-Beaten for my name(even though I'll be born in [redacted]), accused of communism, drugged.
Wednesday-????-Blurry from yesterday's drugs. Beaten for some reason. Something about rice and flowers.
Thursday-1760- Some Inn. Beaten, driven out of town as a witch.
Friday-1865- Prison again, 30 lashes for waking up outside my cell.
Saturday-????-Slave to the giant hairy men. Not so bad, but they make us sleep together in kennels.
Sunday-1930-Sideshow freak. Made to sleep while kids throw things at me.Punishments don't make sleep easier.
Repeat. I hate needles.

I like the idea of looking at past behaviour of the Foundation through the lens of a time-travelling anomaly, but I'm not sure you did enough with the documentation (and for this to work, the Foundation's history has to be quite discontinuous, which is slightly odd). I found the final collapsible a fairly straightforward iteration of the the time travel paradox discussion, and explaining the concern via a portentous researcher's note is my least favourite type of "final note trope", due mostly to finding it the least believable.
