I think I've managed to wrap my head around this one:
So we have these little windows to "snapshots" of our universe, frozen at the exact time of their creation, popping into existence on a regular basis. Because they never change, we can use them as reference points - hard back-ups, if you will - to effectively un-fuck our timeframe after a large-scale time-bending anomaly. When one breaks, our whole universe is reset to the time represented by that little octahedron - and that's already happened at least once, so our timeframe has been wound back X minutes earlier than it should be (which we only know about thanks to 2400). Now the order of these manifestations has been seriously messed up and we're getting more and more objects from the "future" piling up, threatening to overwhelm us.
I dunno, that seemed like a lot of mental wrangling to get to a conclusion that wasn't particularly satisfying. Decent writing, though. No vote for now.
