Hello, SCP Foundation. I come to you with an announcement. SCP wiki staff have decided on engaging in a long-term project to fix the WikiWalk issue existing on our site. Some of you may not be aware of this problem, so in brief:
After the departure of Fishmonger, wiki staff overreacted to his deletion of content and began cracking down on crosslinking and shared storytelling in general. Therefore, the strong connection between articles that made Series I so popular was lost in many of its articles, and this trend continues between its successors. Imagine if tvtropes or wikipedia just suddenly banned all crosslinking between pages and continued to create articles that existed in the void. This hurts the long-term viability of the site and means that most of our content is stranded in a vacuum, difficult to discovery naturally.
Therefore, we have decided to work with our author community to re-add those crosslinks where we can find appropriate places for them. The goal is to do more worldbuilding and allow people to move through all of the SCP Series' like they do Series I. We'll be accomplishing this by asking authors to volunteer their articles to have crosslinkage added, in one of its many forms. Authors can specify whether staff will be allowed to edit these articles, or if the author wishes to implement them on their own. Any proposed edits will be posted on the discussion page, and then stay up for 72 hours for discussion and comments. At the end of this period, feedback will be taken into account and the suggestions implemented. If the author doesn't like them, they can always go back to change or remove our additions entirely. The goal of this project is to do a mass editing project that also respects the rights of our authors over their content.
I have formed a temporary team, the WikiWalk team, to assist with implementing this project. Anyone who wishes to volunteer may post in this thread, or pm me directly. I have temporarily stepped aside as Captain of the Internet Outreach team in order to more fully provide the attention this project will require.
Just to ensure there's no confusion, we will never edit an article without the author's express consent.
In addition, I encourage every author reading this thread to try and add some crosslinks to their own works, separately from anything we might do. You don't have to wait for us, and we would appreciate you going on your own and trying to make something cool!

A: Yes, you can! In addition, please let us know if you'd allow us to make edits on our own, or if you wish to see any proposed changes before they go live.
Q: Can I volunteer to join the WikiWalk Team in this thread?
A: If you're interested in being part of the effort, please say so and give the reason you wish to join.
Q: If someone wants to rewrite an article, can they volunteer it for this?
