Source image for the first picture appears courtesy of Atlas of the Universe, and may be accessed here.

Images two, three, five, and seven all appear courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.

Image four comes from Pexels, a free stock photo site.

Image six is currently labeled for reuse.

In all cases, image manipulation is my own work.

Yay, it's the long overdue convenient space observation skip.

thoughts

1) "Experimentation has shown that uploading additional the consciousness of another subject simultaneously disrupts D-43852's control over SCP-2669." you accidentally a word.

2) While initially chilling (horrible things being done first as a result of unclear need, then because of frightened necessity), the logs border on the edge of excessive villainy/comedic sadism at the end. Even if it is intentional, it doesn't change what I feel about it. Mindflaying a baby, whatever will they think of next?

3) That said, this is still about one of the squickiest lines of dialogue I've read on the site.

See, the end of the logs is where I actually upvoted, because it kind of worked.

I'm not sure I'm pleased at the implication that they'll be bombarding it with mindflayed babies, but still.

I don't read a mind-flayed baby, I read a newborn that simply hasn't developed any kind of mind yet.

This gave me some heavy "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" vibes. Like, they basically created AM out of a human consciousness. That's why the extreme cruelty of D-43852 works for me.

Excellent work. My favourite flavour of article has me feeling like I'm digging through mounds of files to get the full picture, and this one certainly achieved that, without sacrificing any vision or narrative for the effect. Only minor issue I had was the unexplained nature of the Foundation getting their hands on chat logs from the ship, but given the rest of the article, I trust that you know what's happening there.

Pretty sure there's a word missing here somewhere. Am I parsing it incorrectly?

SCP-2669 is host to the consciousness of D-43852 (the former Dr. Asma Tareen). D-43852 exerts autonomous control over the probe, and is actively seeking to return to Earth

Jesus even without the chat logs it was creepy. I loved the tone that was set and especially the God Complex our poor doctor has attained. The dialogue was so eerie and i loved it!

I hated this idea when I read it in George Alec Effinger's story "One", and I hate it now. But you've done it very well, so I won't vote.

Now that was an interesting take on D-class.

I like in the initial logs how you can see the original D-class descend into a sort of madness, and how that elevates into a sort of god complex as more and more minds are forced to interact with it, until it reaches a mind so new that it is hardly a mind at all.

The narrative here and characterization of D-43852 are fantastic. +1

The last collapsible had me screaming in my mind of how terrible it is to keep sending this guy people, and I suppose that's part of the point. +1

I like it a lot. The idea that they'll just keep sending people out there no matter what, it really hits you hard. Even without the collapsibles it's a great piece, but they just really send it home.

I caught a leftover SCP-XXX in the third collapsible. Not sure if that's intentional, pretty sure it isn't.
