Intro!

Hey everyone,
Just a quick bit about this.

Originally I had something pretty different in mind that failed spectacularly but I got talking to Zyn and she offered to co-write this with me. With some help from the good Dr. Grom and Rikjard Regreps, we put together an entirely new iteration of my "moon gnomes" concept. (Sounds funnier than they really are I think).

I love coming up with ideas and concepts but execution is a bit of a weak point with SCPs as I don't have a solid grasp on clinical language. Furthermore, Zyn's background on the site helped tremendously so we could avoid making a clone of something else. It was great going back and forth on stuff.

I'm pretty happy with this and excited about it since I've wanted to get something solid on here for years so I think this is a good (real) attempt at it, so tremendous thank yous to Zyn, Grom, and Rikjard who all played a big part in this. Especially Zyn!

Eyyyyy this was a pretty fun writing adventure. Big thanks to everyone who read this over in chat, especially the people who got excited about MOOOOOON GNOOOOOOMESS. Hooray!

Dr_Grom and Rikjard did an amazing job with the German aspects. Turns out, there are two SCP-DE Foundation sites in Germany within 50 km of the recovery location of this anomaly! Shout-out to the new German branch, they're doing great work.

I had a lot of fun with this. Collabs are fun, everyone!

Moon gnomes. I like it, especially the implied friction between the MGs and the kobolden. Makes me wonder what the MGs are doing with the trade goods.

Minor note: I think "highfalutin" in that one translation note isn't quite the word you want (unless linguistics has given a formal meaning to a very informal word.) "Patronizing" or "Pretentious" might be more what you're looking for.

I think it sort of is German-ish- you see a lot Germanglish (ala Spanglish) words like that, especially in the Midwest and South: Beergarden, icehouse (icebox sort of came from that one), bum (as in hobo), grubhouse, uproar…

So there is a lot to love about this article. For starters, the descriptions of the gnomes themselves are just adorable. The trade log is fascinating and really helps with world building via the magical folk trade system implied there in. Finally, we are left with the mention of the kolbolde which not only amplifies the world building already done, but leaves me wanting to know even more.

If you haven't considered making an article for the kolboldes, maybe give that a shot as well. I'd be very interested in reading it.

I actually like this quite a bit. As a dutchman might say "Elves - they're just so silly".

Up until the interview, this was pretty much perfect. However, I feel that the interview was an attempt to tack on narrative that was both superflous and underdeveloped. Conceptually, "moon gnomes" is pretty solid. Including "bad moon gnomes" didn't make me understand the article any better, and just felt like an attempt to introduce some sorely unneeded pathos/menace into an already-great article.

Still, solid +1.

Understandable though I think it's fair to mention that historically Koboldes are opposite of the "good" gnomes our little moon buddies share some concepts with. So there is a real basis for it other than just being spooky.

Incidentally, we had a lot less kobolde/dark moon gnomes material in the early draft stages. Several of the reviewers said they hoped for a bit more on the baddie betrayers, hence the addition of the second addendum.

I'm glad you liked the article, though! That table was a headache and a half to compile, lol.

Like night and day! I remember the previous version of this. There's been a remarkable overhaul in not just the tone; but the story, the characters, the trades…

A lack of cohesion plagued the last iteration, this is quite the opposite. +1

We spent a lot of time hashing out ideas in the sandbox before we started writing the draft piece-by-piece. It's been quite the journey to get the work to where it is now! :D
