I had to get my creative juices and my writing skills back up and running, so I insisted on pushing myself to do this. It's short, should be sweet.

It's a bit thin. Short is fine, but substance is all the more necessary for something of this length. I'm having a hard time finding it right now.

The object as a whole is fine, I don't mind magical items so long as they're given context, and there's no shortage of that. The end seems tacked on, honestly, and I wonder if it would be better without it. Still, the issue of substance remains.

I'm uncertain what could be added or changed to make me feel differently, but as is it just feels hollow.

Still, a good article. Not one I'd upvote, but not a downvote either.

I'm really interested in the Fairy Flag. Not so much the rest of the article. What's that one article about the classic rock sword that floats around and cuts things within its radius? I'm vaguely reminded of that by the last addendum, which I'm not sure how to feel about.

Although on closer inspection, it turns out that the Fairy Flag is real. Hm. I kind of preferred to think that it was made up to be some sort of site-specific lore, for whatever reason. Not that it's not still interesting, but I think there's real potential in a series of articles circling around, but never encountering, some mythic Scottish heirloom.

I'll have to -1 since it wasn't that engaging, but the parts I mentioned are definitely worth salvaging.

I think the last line of the recovery may be a little too blatant. Otherwise, I enjoyed it!

This seems to be missing something, and not just part of the sword.

While I can dig a short article, at the end of this I'm not left with much aside from a neat half-a-sword and little else. Maybe if the narrative of the piece was illuminated on further (through more details on its recovery, or expanded testing, etc) I'd be more inclined to upvote.

For now I'm going to no vote. There are parts to piece that I like, and its well written overall.

Upvoted, I figured out what was going on pretty quickly and felt all clever or something.

So what happened was, the sword's middle section is still connected to the rest of it, but it's physically in another place. Its position in that other place is more or less locked in a great big box. Then during that one test, the d-class apparently managed to cut someone on the other side in half with it and someone else on the other side got upsot. That's what I got out of this, at least.

That's just my interpretation though.

Upvoted for possibly stupid reasons, listed below:

1. My username was derived from ancestors I no longer share a name with. This was, for all points and purposes, a shoutout to my own family and that makes me disproportionately happy.
2. I did research on aforementioned ancestors a while back and have read a little (meaning the Wikipedia article) about Clan MacLeod's Fairy Flag and was super psyched to see such an obscure piece of real-world lore included on the site.
3. The implications provided here are, well, pretty great, even if my excitement has been inflated by my personal investment in the piece. My conclusions were pretty similar to Bill's, above, and that sort of narrative also appeals to me.

So maybe I'm openly letting pre-existing biases get in the way here, but I found the piece to be really fun.
