Elevator Pitch: The anomaly is first believed to be a modified IRC chatroom hosted since IRC began with nine constant users that talk about space, but is later found to be the actual planets of the Solar System chatting with each other. The true anomaly is discovered when the users talk about a large dust storm on Mars before any researcher was able to predict, and it is later found the users previously discussed various space phenomena that were unknown to astronomers on Earth until much later.
Central Narrative: The entry is first described as an old computer that displays an otherwise inaccessible IRC server with nine users that have been talking since IRC began and have never disconnected. The users mainly talk about space and space phenomena in a very casual manner and with distinct personalities; short sections of these logs are used in the article. The Foundation initially believes this to be the only anomaly of the entry, but when an abnormally large dust storm appears on Mars, the Foundation investigates the chat logs and finds the users talking about the storm appearing months before it was able to be predicted from Earth. This alerts the Foundation, and they go through more logs to discover the users were consistently discussing space phenomena that were unknown to astronomers until much later.
